Leonardo Dicaprio has a strong case to be the best actor of his generation...

By his generation....I mean actors who came into prominence during the late 90s into the 2000s.

Romeo + Juliet (say what you want...i dug it)
Titantic
Man in the Iron Mask
Catch me if you can
Gangs of New York
The Aviator
Blood Diamond
The Departed
Revolutionary Road
Shutter Island
Inception

Upcoming Films:
The Great Gatsby (love that book, hope Leo kills it)
J. Edgar
Frank Sinatra Biopic

And he's just 36. Can't believe he hasn't won any Oscars. Im trying to think but, I can't find anyone in his age range (besides the obvious Will Smith & he's older) who has a similar resume.

DiCaprio gets cast in the best movies.

I wouldnt say he's the best actor, though.

He got a case though...in his generation atleast. Can't name too many actors below 35 who're seeing him. He's been in 5-6 dope to classic movies. Inception almost cracked a Billion. Shutter Island was very good. The Departed was dope. Catch Me if you Can, The Aviator & Blood Diamond were great. Titantic was the highest grossing film til Avatar.

If he does J. Edgar, Sinatra & The Great Gatsby any justice, his resume will be impeccable. Especially with Gatsby.

I agree Leo is the most improved. But I have to go with Bale too, the dedication he puts in is honorable.

I can see Bale being considered....i think he has more "filler" than Leo but, he def. got some classics. American ? being one, The Batman reboots too.

I like Leo he improved a lot I thought he was going to be stagnant, but he made a lot of strides. He does get roles in some of the best films out there though. And I thought he acting and accent was pretty weak in Blood Diamonds.

Co-Sign and good thread. Who would have thought that this development is possible after a movie like Titanic? Johnny Depp comes for me second...

Leo is a great actor but imma ride with Terry Gilliam's opinion that Heath Ledger was the greatest actor of his generation.

and even though he died very early he still has a resume that's hard to match, say what you want about the movies but he gave a standout performance in each of these:

10 Things I Hate About You
    The Patriot
Monster's Ball <-- Supporting Actor Oscar worthy performance IMO
Brokeback Mountain <-- nominated but robbed of a Best Actor Oscar
    Brothers Grimm
Four Feathers <-- Best Actor Oscar worthy performance IMO
Ned Kelly <-- Best Actor Oscar worthy performance IMO
Lords of Dogtown <-- Supporting Actor Oscar worthy performance IMO
Candy <-- Best Actor Oscar worthy performance IMO
The Dark Knight <-- Supporting Actor Oscar winning performance but should have been a Best Actor Oscar, let's face it that was The Joker Movie
Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus <--- 3 different A-list actors each tried to match his performance and each failed to live up to Heath

    This.

An average actor IMO, but has a knack for very high quality scripts.

    A producer as well.
