should store all your vids on an external anyway if you watch alot of video. alot less wear on the internal components of the ps3 system. if you do this, make sure you get an external with an actual ac adapter and is not powered just by the usb alone. some externals that are powered by usb alone might not work with the ps3 because those ports don't give off a hell of alot of juice. some work, others don't.

You sure it's not your formatting? PS3 reads Fat32 formatted hard drives and not NTSC.

nah bro. i'm talking about the ps3 usb ports not generating enough energy to power certain external drives that do not have a seperate external power supply.

Ok, I've never had that problem. I've used different ext's and flash and never had any problem reading them. Only time it wouldn't read were some new WD externals which were NTSC, so I just reformatted them and transferred my movies to it then plugged it in and watched them.

He's talking about (mostly older model) ext hdds that need a ac adapter to power on, most new ones can power on from the whatever you plug it into (PS3/PC etc)
