::DISCLAIMER: NO STANNING::
Yeah we all heard his reasons for changing his number("24 seconds on the shot clock, 24 hours in a day etc."). We even heard his detractors say he thinks hes better than Jordan so his number must be 1 higher than 23, hes looking for extra jersey sales (which may have a lil truth to it) etc etc.
After hittin the L and watching some old highlights it hit me.... you cant deny all the classic ? he did as number 8. the clutch shots, the chips, all star selections, 1st team selections, 81 points, being considered the best in the league etc etc.
Now this is assuming he wins another chip or even two playing on a consistantly high level.. hes trying to be the first great to Retire TWO jerseys. Hes already had a great start at number 24, being considered the best, 1 team selections, all star games, championship, finals mvp, finally won without shaq as the main man etc etc.
At the very least, even if they never retire two different kobe jerseys i guarantee it will be a debate maybe even heated. Once you see the arguments for and against it you cant help but compare what he did when he was no.8 and no.24. Just watching him today you can say no 24 kobe is different from no 8.
Not sure if any of this is profound enough for discussion but i figured id share with yall. lets discuss....

lol i had to market this thread with the "interesting read". obviously it seems far fetched when you first think about it but it is very possible. whose to say kobe wasnt thinking it as well? that would be a hell of an accomplishment and a first of its kind i think lol. -
interesting theory
-
that was a good theory....i mean i highly doubt they'd even consider retiring 2 numbers from the same team but i see your point
-
when a team you never played for retires you number, then that's when you know you are the man...Miami Heat have 23 hanging from the rafters

That might be a reflection of the owner being a jordan stan. im sure a lot of people disagree with that decision but it is what it is. but the lakers history is deeper than the bulls and the heat to be honest. he can very well have two different jerseys retired or at least create a big debate about it provided he keeps up his high quality of production and another chip under the belt. -
that's a good theory, wich jersey will they retire ? probally 8 if they choose one.
-
Homie has a point.....Im sure they'll retire both...dont see why not.

When Kobe had the 8 he was way harder...

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Nice mix -
8 x 3(rings) = 24
-
Kobe is obviously now a more cerebral player..therefore hes better now than when he was 8..but man did 8 kobe have some ? on ? and some buzzer beaters for that azz...the one Dwight Howard his rookie year?? the TWO buzzer beaters in one game against portland to win the division??? un believable

8 Kobe = The Terminator
24 Kobe = Hannibal Lecter -
If Kobe had to chose which number to retire it would be 24 just b\c he won ring\s without shaq wearing 24

not a bad thought... prior to getting number 4 -
I always thought it was a PR move to help people forget about that little "situation" in CO...

Lol ? jersey Gona say 8/24
When he retire
lol ? gon split the difference and go in as 16. first player in the HOF to be retired with a number they never played with -
interesting theories but the actual truth is...
KB changed his original number 24 to number 33 in high school out of respect for his pops who also wore 33. but when he went to the lakers, that number was already retired(kareem), and some other scrub on the lakers roster(george mccloud) wore 24 at the time. so he chose 8.
8 was the sum of 143, the number he wore at ABCD camp.
he just switched back to his original number. no big deal -

i wanna see footage of him wearing 24 back then. thing is hes prolly come up with ? to say to throw you off. if he come out and say straight up he wanna be the first dude to get two jerseys retired you know the backlash he would get?
he kinda got his image back so im sure at this point in his career he wouldnt ruin that with a bold statement like that. i mean thats just me puttin myself in his shoes as well i think that makes sense. either way you could be right but im not buyin that ? no offense lol -
