    I consider mainstream the popular stuff always being advertised in various media outlets.

    It's usually the same artists and devoid of any actual skill.

    -$$$$ as the primary motive is the problem.
    -Also, mainstream usually = dumbed down (or just already dumb w/o trying) to appeal to a wider audience.
    -As long as people (consumers and artists) in general accept simple-minded or redundant hip-hop w/o balance, uninspired cookie cutter music will do numbers.
    -The laissez faire attitude that some previously respectable artists have adopted is sickening.
