Trailer For New Year's Eve Online
Colossal cast gets festive
27 July 2011 | Written by Owen Williams | Source: MSN

Don't mess with serendipity. When you've had a massive international hit with a holiday-specific ensemble rom-dram-com, it's only natural to follow it up with another. Here's the newly-arrived trailer for New Year's Eve, the spiritual sequel to Valentine's Day. Darren Lynn Bousman's Mother's Day is not part of this sequence.

New Year's Eve gives us another set of intertwining stories, set this time in New York rather than LA. While obviously sharing Valentine's Day's DNA (it's once again written by Katherine Fugate and directed by Garry Marshall), it's not a sequel in the usual sense, with the returning Ashton Kutcher and Jessica Biel paying different characters to the last time.

Biel's character is pregnant and trying to win a prize for being first to give birth on New Year's Day. Michelle Pfeiffer is a downtrodden secretary making an extra effort with her resolutions. Hilary Swank is a TV producer organising a big New Year's Eve show. Robert De Niro is facing a tearjerking terminal illness. Katherine Heigl is a caterer being forced to work all night: a role that was originally earmarked for Halle Berry. And Halle Berry, who left but then came back, ended up playing a Manhattan nurse. And Jon Bon Jovi is a rockstar. He's versatile, that Jon Bon Jovi.

Elsewhere in that cor-blimey cast we've also got Ice Cube, Josh Duhamel, Zac Efron, Carla Gugino, Alyssa Milano, Sarah Jessica Parker, Sienna Miller, Ludacris, Sofia Vergara, Greg Kinnear, Cam Gigandet and Meg Ryan. All the feel-good festivities kick off on December 9.

Another New Year's Eve Trailer Online
    Even hopeless can be romantic

It's still only September so we're trying not to even think about Christmas yet, but New Line and Warners are intent that we should all already be focused on New Year's Eve, a new trailer for which has just gone up at Apple. There's a poster too:

We were already primed for Gary Marshall's spiritual follow-up to Valentine's Day back in the summer, but there's enough going on among the enormous cast of characters to provide plenty of new teasers here. Things we learned this time: this is not ? , and nobody wins when pregnant women fight.

New Year's Eve gives us another set of intertwining stories, set this time in New York rather than LA. It shares Valentine's Day's DNA (along with the returning Marshall it's once again written by Katherine Fugate), but Ashton Kutcher and Jessica Biel are playing different characters here.

Biel's character is pregnant and trying to win a prize for being first to give birth on New Year's Day; Michelle Pfeiffer is a downtrodden secretary making an extra effort with her resolutions; Hilary Swank is a TV producer organising a big New Year's Eve show; Robert De Niro is facing a tearjerking terminal illness; Katherine Heigl is a caterer being forced to work all night; Halle Berry is a Manhattan nurse; and Jon Bon Jovi is a rockstar. Pfft: typecasting much?

Elsewhere on the roll call we've also got Ice Cube, Josh Duhamel, Zac Efron, Carla Gugino, Alyssa Milano, Sarah Jessica Parker, Sienna Miller, Ludacris, Sofia Vergara, Greg Kinnear, Cam Gigandet and Meg Ryan, and all the feel-good festivities kick off on December 9.
