He wasn't a president, he didn't come from a white family, he wasn't born rich yet this man has a memorial amongst all the greats in American History. Say what you want about MLK approach for peace and yes there were more people than MLK that faught the battle for me as a Black Man to be where I am today. But at the end of the day he's the GOAT. He was the one that made those evil devils put a mirror up and run away from there reflection. Yes they clipped him cause they feared him but MLK pulled a Ben Kenobi on they ? :

Regardless who built it, the fact is he just got Presidential Status with this Memorial without being a President. It would of been nice for some brothas to make it but MLK was about equality and peace for everyone, he would not have cared who made it as long as it was made. That was his message and his Legacy, we are all one.

Exactly, why do we have to find fault in everything good that happens? Enjoy this and celebrate it as a black american, because it is a huge achievement.

No the ? 's that clipped him being forced to respect his gangsta and changed their polices = KING WON which in turn means we won. He was our President and they had to honor him. I know it still burns some of them up that they had to do it.

Why people always gotta be so negative? Something like 80% of black people are killed by black people. So should we go around hatin on each other at all times? not all white ppl are evil, we gotta get that into our heads.

And no, we din't win, but this is still a step, and a lot more than you've done for the advancement of blacks.

    What did we win?

It's a win for Black American History that one our leaders was put on this level. What's not a win is the state of Black America is still an issue in 2011. Why are we the most unemployed in the country? "Last Hired, 1st Fired". Racism didn't end cause of Barack's election, it has evolved, it's done mostly through class which most Blacks are not middle class. It's also done through the work force, we rarely run companies or are the CEO's. I think Martin would be happy with some of the changes but he would be upset with so many other things.

Some of my people also have to take some responsibility as we aren't helping ourselves as much either. But when you've been condition to hate yourself for 400 years, it takes some time for a race as a whole to get out of that mental struggle. Barack election did show that the new generation of whites, kids of their parents who grew up in a more post-racial world have changed from their parents way of thinking. But sadly we get the 1st Black President when the country is in the worst state since the Great Depression. So it was like White America said, "Ok Black man, you can run the country now when it's ? , now fix it", lol. It's funny how people are saying Barack shouldn't be re-elected but this same country gave Bush 8 years to destroy it. SMH

"Band aid over a chainsaw wound", damn man that was deep and very poetic, I like it and your right, it's a small victory for what they did. It's more like a consolation prize since they murked MLK and X, as well as destroyed the Black Panther party and pacified Black America with rights we should have been had 100's of years ago. But this is still a Victory, MLK is basically a President in American History for the status he has. I just wish X got more props but they will never give him the respect he deserves. When MLK was gunned down, nobody thought a memorial of this nature would be built for him let alone him having a major holiday.

I think MLK would be disappointed. I don't think he would be proud at all.

A statue, a memorial that cost millions that can not be maintained, his children arguing and fighting over money and his legacy, and Black people still in the same relative position with increasing illiteracy, woman dominated households, diminishing land ownership, high unemployment, half of the largest prison population iin the Western Hemisphere.

Nah son, a statue don't cut it.

What about a bag of beans, a can of spam, some white women, and THE PRESIDENCY?

The president of the United States of America is black.

And yet, black people are still like "I stubbed my toe! Whitey! WHITEEEEYYYYYY!!!!!"

The president's black, y'all. The president.

The President is half white, raised by white people, and his father is of African descent.

The President as your socialist buddies will tell you is a figurehead manager for oligarchies(read: wealthy white interests). This particular one has made it be known that he is not interested in addressing issues of Blacks at the expense of middle America(read:every day run of the mill crackers). He has addressed the issues ? , Jews, and Wealthy gentiles, Blue collar whites, and the prominent Hispanics. It's cool most of us know how the game is played and we really didn't expect much. I just wanted the bro to get in so our youth could have another visual. Mission accomplished.

Black people have served in Mayoral offices in every major city. It is nothing new. Which for most blacks is more relevant being local politics and all. Black Managers of white realities are not indication of progress.

Our problem is we let politicians ? us with song and dances and not make demands. When politicians come to black people, they usually come to the church and sing and shout and quote a couple bible verses. When they come to the Jews they come in a room with table and chairs and a list of questions and demands.

    But you know all this........................

    Nas won, really...

The statue is a beautiful thing and I'm proud MLK Jr has his own statue and memorial. He's the first person of color to have his own memorial in DC, it's an incredible accomplishment. Black America did take a nice win with this, good thread Rap.

I agree.....I don't regret voting for Obama, only because Republicans are still much worst, but my eyes opened very wide last year when I realize there hasn't been any serious change at all......Obama does serve, if anything, a purpose to show that anyone these days can be something if they put their mind to it. With that being said, MLK Jr would be very disappointed at the never ending wars Obama continues and his lack of a solid policy to help the middle class and poor.

Black America won? Almost NONE of Black America supported King when he was around. He did what Black America was afraid to do.

YOU didn't partake in his courage. You sat at home like a good ? .
