Since we're only 1 month away from the Grammy cut-off date - the time frame in which an album/song must be released to be eligible for nomination - ...let's look at some of the potential category's that hip-hop can shine in. This year is gonna be a good look for Kanye, at least for nominations.

As of right now I see the nominees looking something like this:

Album of the Year
21, Adele
Duets II, Tony Bennett
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Kanye West
Country slot: Taylor Swift, Jason Aldean and Alison Krauss
Other contenders/wildcards: Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Cee-Lo Green, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry
I don't think there was a standout Rock album for there to be a Rock album slot.. but if there was it'd go to one of these: Foo Fighters, Radiohead, Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver, Red Hot Chili Peppers

Record/Song of the Year (2 categories)
Rolling In The Deep/Someone Like You, Adele
You & I, Lady Gaga
Grenade, Bruno Mars
1+1, Beyonce
The Cave, Mumford & Sons
Firework, Katy Perry
Runaway, Kanye West
Don't You Wanna Stay, Jason Aldean & Kelly Clarkson
For The First Time - The Script
Pumped Up Kicks, Foster The People
If I Die Young, The Band Perry

Kanye is a strong contender this year but Adele is most likely gonna ruin his chances at getting any awards in the general fields (AOTY/SOTY/ROTY) ... Dude pretty much neglected that album. He definitely has chances in the Rap categories, though.

Best Rap Album
Watch The Throne, Jay-Z & Kanye West
Pink Friday, Nicki Minaj
Tha Carter IV, Lil' Wayne
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Kanye West
Tyler The Creator, Goblin
Other contenders: Lasers, Rolling Papers, Man On The Moon 2: The Legend of Mr. Rager

Best New Artist
The Band Perry
Jessie J
Nicki Minaj
Luke Bryan (or random Alternative/AAA artist)
Foster The People/Sleigh Bells (random, unknown artist, a la Esperanza Spalding)
maybe Bon Iver if he's even eligible

Nicki Minaj will def be a Best New Artist nominee and she is ostensibly the frontrunner. No one else has sold as much, has had as many hit singles, and is as credible. Following closely behind is The Band Perry. Foster The People seemed like a longshot, but with a top twenty hit that's climbing up the charts, they're shoo-ins for a nod.

Best Rap/Sung Collaboration
All of the Lights, Kanye West & Rihanna
Moment 4 Life, Nicki Minaj & Drake
Lift Off, Jay-Z & Kanye West & Beyonce
Bottoms Up, Trey Songz & Nicki Minaj
What's My Name, Rihanna & Drake
Lighters, Hell Meets Evil & Bruno Mars

Best Rap Performance/Best Rap Song (2 categories)
Monster, Kanye West, Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj & Rick Ross
Look At Me Now, Chris Brown, Busta Rhymes & Lil Wayne
Otis, Jay-Z & Kanye West
Did It On'em/Roman's Revenge, Nicki Minaj & Eminem
Runaway, Kanye West & Pusha T
Super Bass, Nicki Minaj
Moment 4 Life, Nicki Minaj & Drake
6 Foot 7 Foot, Lil Wayne & Cory Gunz
All of the Lights, Kanye West
Lupe Fiasco, The Show Goes On

Pop Vocal Peformance by a Duo or Group
Tony Bennet & Amy Winehouse
Price Tag, Jessie J & B.o.B.
ET, Katy Perry & Kanye West
Good Life, One Republic
For The First Time, The Script

Any other predictions? Am I missing something?

    Those are very solid predictions.

I think we might see "I Need a Doctor" pop up on the nomination list somewhere though.

Probably not. But he's rising in fame quick as hell and the album got "generally favorable reviews" so he just might be this year's off, "unpopular" nominee.

Maybe switch goblin with rolling papers or something, not cause it was better but more popular

I still think Ye can pull an arcade fire though... Critics loved mbdtf even more than 21

21 got favorable reviews but sold like 4/5 mill copies?

    Damn, I forgot about that ? .

Na, Drake was. She was nominated last year but Grammys changed Best New Artist rule to artists being disqualified if they've won a Grammy before instead of just nominated..

In the US its sold over 3 million but worldwide its over 9.2 million...and that's why I think she has the edge this year over Kanye. Ye has more of the critical acclaim.. but Adele not only has the critical appraisal but she also has the bigger sales too. Double whammy. Kanye's got the critical appraisal, but not the sales. Seeing as Adele has two HUGE factors, along with radio success and chart success, she's all the more likely to take the trophy.

Kanye would've had a much better chance at gettin the Grammy for AOTY from Arcade Fire this year of he released his album before 2010's eligibility deadline.

Carter IV will be in contention for Best Rap Album/ Album Of The Year simply for sales and the amount of singles. Since he has so many singles it would make sense to put them in contention against other songs in rap categories. Some of Nicki's songs will probably be removed in lieu of his records which are newer and have resulted in higher sales. However, i agree that Adele will clean up at the Grammys this year since she is white, soulful, & commercially successful. She can be pops newer & sober British white soul singer to replace Amy Winehouse. Eh, that's all i think. When are the nominees announced?

    Best Rap Album

    My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
    Watch The Throne
    Tha Carter IV
    Rolling Papers
    Lasers

These albums are very pop-oriented and fit the Grammys taste. Ideally, i would hope for Twisted Fantasy, but i think it will come down between WTT and C4.
