These films are legendary. Shot on shoe string budgets, with some really bad acting, and worse kung fu choregraphy but that wasnt the point. It was about the celebration of the post civil rights movement were Black people could have there own heroes (and in most cases anti-hero) on screen. These films will live forever and still influental 40 years later and of course THE MUSIC is incredible. Heres a taste what do you like best??

FILM: SWEET SWEETBACK'S BAD ASS SONG
YEAR: 1971
ARITST: EARTH WIND AND FIRE

BACK DROP: Melvin Van Pebbles (father of Mario Van Peebles director of New Jack City and other stuff) shot this independently with financing from Bill Cosby (of all people) about a Black man who kills some corrupt cops, ? a white woman, goes on the run from the law and gets away. It started the Blaxploitation era and introduced an unknown jazz/r&B out fit called Earth Wind ANd Fire. The industry thought Van Pebbles was out his mind until the film came out playing in ATL and Detroit only and was a huge box office success. Hollywood saw the profit in it and the Blaxploitation era was born!
