Really though???

You cannot pretend to be a fly on the wall of a ? investigation while HOLDING EVIDENCE

Once you receive evidence you are no longer indifferent to the situation....this is not journalistic integrity or w/e the ? you wanna call it

No No No No... ESPN recieved that tape from an unreliable source and had no way to confirm who either of the people were in the tape (so they can not run with a story like that); so they contacted the cops in regards to the info the cops said they already knew... ESPN did nothing wrong close thread/

"well we don't see it as our job to go to the authorities with evidence that we collect"

Meanwhile questions are growing over why the tape was in ESPN's possession since former team ball boy Mr Davis legally recorded it nearly a decade ago.
The network said it didn't air it until Sunday because it didn't have corroboration. ESPN added that it hired a voice-recognition expert who said the voice on the recording matches Mrs Fine's.

So voice recognition experts only came along in 2011???

Mr Davis made the tape after a brief talk with police in 2002 and gave it to ESPN. His allegations, which he also brought to the Syracuse Post-Standard at the time, created a journalistic conundrum.

The two outlets didn't know whether to report accusations that could be incredibly damaging to Mr Fine, or to risk not exposing a child molester. Both opted not to report on the allegations.

No what are you talking about? Like I said there was no way to verfy who was on that tapes; you need multiple sources or hard evidence to run a story as a journalist or you can get sued; ESPN can't run a story nor believe anything like that; ESPN did say that the cops were already aware of that tape before they even got it.

    Blasphemy!

Tell me a story then that ESPN reported of claims this severe that didn't have reliable or multiple sources?... If some random kid came to ESPN tomorrow claiming Pat Riley molested him and had a grainy audio tape claiming Pat Riley's wife was on the audio tape confirming his claims and ESPN ran with the story and it came out to be not true... ESPN would be f*cked Riley would get atleast 50 million out of them

    I gotta agree with T/S..

ESPN may be spinning the story that they contacted the authorities just to save face...

What has ESPN done to earn anyone's trust other than the trust they get from their own employees and affiliates??

nothing, so no I do not believe ESPN at all, not one bit...sounds like they trying to cover their ?

8 years??? we talking 8 years, not 8 months or 8 weeks, 8 years... and when they first got it, they more than likely didn't believe it....until now...8 years later

    T/s...

ESPN is not the police. They are a news broadcaster.

They would be in serious legal jeopardy if they released this story and it turned out to be untrue.

You need multiple sources to even think about publishing a story like this, and at the time there was only one, the accuser.

And yes, the local police had the tape. Multiple news sources all had the information at the time and none published it because of the lack of reliability at the time.

    This....

And let's not forget ESPN's history of running with allegations.

    1. Barry Bonds... ESPN pursued the BALCO angle for years. Their 'coverage' on the story led to Federal investigations of Bonds, Marion Jones and other BLACK athletes which culminated in the conviction of Jones and Bonds being in court for years.

    2. Michael Vick... When the dogfighting story broke, ESPN followed it like rabid dogs (no pun intended). They kept digging and digging until a local misdemeanor offense became a huge Federal case. They stopped a small time dog fighting operation which landed Vick in Leavenworth for 2 years.

    3. Kobe Bryant... ESPN was off the meter with the Vail, CO ? case... 24/7 coverage. Roger Cossack on speed dial and what felt like 100's of 'experts' chiming in on what price Kobe would pay. They never fully mentioned that ole girl was a hoe from the door. The whole multiple ? stains in her ? panties was never really vetted out on their airwaves. The result? Kobe lost his endorsement with Adidas (good those were the WOAT kicks), Coke and Nutella, and was viewed as public enemy #1 by all whites because he had sex with some ugly White chick.

    4. Ben Rothelsberger... Big Ben has been accused at least twice for allegedly ? women. ESPN was very laid back in their coverage of the story and basically let it die on the vine. ESPN did not do the huge expose piece on Ben and his history of ? or forcing women to have sex with him. They simply covered it as they would if the dude threw 2 TD's in a game against the Ravens.

So yeah. ESPN knew exactly what they were doing. If Bernie Fine were, Rod Strickland, Jeff Capel, Nolan Richardson, Tubby Smith, etc... they would have been all over this story from the jump. you would have had wall to wall coverage of the 'Scandal' at ____ University with the questions of who knew what and when they knew it.

Espn ran stories about Bobby Knight choking a player, when the only person talking about it was the one player and his parents. and this was before the video surfaced

c/s except the Barry bonds part. It was them dudes from the San Fran newspaper that put out that book with the leaked grand jury testimony that got bonds fried up not ESPN.

I would say this has less to do with race and more to do with money and power. If this wasn't Syracuse but vermont then this ? would have been blown up earlier Plus tons of ESPN guys are form Syracuse. I know Mike tirico and bob costas both went there for broadcasting. I wouldn't be surprised if a few of the ESPN top execs are graduates from Syracuse

the boy made the accusations years ago. 8 years ago they received corroborating evidence that it took place. the phone call was the corroborating evidence. lets not act like ESPN has ever put alot of detail into verifying voices

I cosign aone post and this...........

A lot of the people up at ESPN are from those schools up there. Thats why a lot of those schools get more coverage than they should(especially in ? football), and you know they wont be to quick to make their schools look bad.

Ive really started to hate ESPN. I honestly hardly ever watch them anymore. They are to ? bias and have way to much damn influence. I really wish someone else would come along and really challenge them... I watch Fox Sports and NFL Network wayyyy more now.
