Adam ? - I don't understand how a grown man can watch Happy Gilmore or Billy Madison and consider them funny

Chris Farley- Nuff' said

John Belushi's character in Animal House- Tbh, I have only seen one of his performances, so I cannot judge him fairly as a comedic actor. But his character is a buffoon, that doesn't always translate to quality comedy

I'm not even sure Charlie Murphy has a big enough fanbase to be considered overrated.....

Surprises me every time he comes out with a new movie. Especially after that one where he turns to the fat white guy. Then that Death at a Funeral remake garage.

Just sounds like different strokes for different folks.. because a lot of the comedic actors named have put out quality material especially early in their career BUT have over saturated the film industry with duds but someone pays to watch them/studios keep casting them so they eventually got labeled overrated.

I guess what I mean is yea they are overrated but don't make it seem like they haven't done something funny before/they don't do the comedy you enjoy.

In this ? thread. We name considerable white people because we can't relate to their content?

not for me...i just don't like slapstick, over-the-top comedy. most comedic, white actors do that ? ....*shrug*

jonah hill, seth rogen, & (occasionally) steve carrell can get a laugh out of me pretty easily tho.

Jonah Hill and Michael Cera. Both play twists on the exact same character. To Hill's credit, he's in the only three funny things that happened in Superbad: Period on leg, hit by the car, and hit by the car again.

Russell Brand. Is. Not. Funny. Period.

Dane Cook, like Katt Williams, started off hilarious but then told the same four jokes over and over again. I understand having a bit when you're working comedy clubs, but you cannot appear on national TV televised specials telling the same jokes.

    Jack Black. The end. He's not funny because he doesn't give a ? . He's just a fat guy who doesn't give a ? .

    Oh but the worst is:

Monty Python: John Cleese et al

But comedy is very much based on personal taste and not "quality" so "overrated" is the wrong word, I just find these as funny as a can of frozen dogfood

I like this thread, because humor is so subjective...there's going to be a lot of opinions!
I wouldn't call Farley overrated or underrated, he has his fans...but isn't revered as someone like John Candy.

I don't know much about Belushi, I guess to understand his impact in comedy, we'll have to check his SNL skits. Animal House is funny, but I liked him better in The Blues Brothers.

I think Steve Martin is a great comedic actor, because he has range.
Actors like ? & Ferrell are limited, but it's still effective because they do that certain thing very well.
Ferrell is a buffoon for sure, but it works!
