proper grammar =/= intelliigence
all language is language and there is no way of speaking that is objectively better than the other. in this society however, speaking in ebonics sends an indirect message that im pretty sure most of you are familiar with. and on the other extreme, when someone is uppity and using big ass words that people almost never use in irl conversations then they are sending or trying to send an indirect message as well. language is language, it's all about the connotations. if blacks were the majority in america, and ebonics was used everywhere (government, literature, media ... etc. ) and whites were getting the short end of the stick, then the stigma associated with speaking 'black' would be reversed. -
