Who plays what position in basketball?

    The labels aren't for us as much as they are for the coaches to use when drawing up their plays. If every player has an "official" position when on the court, it's easier to explain their role in each individual play. For example, sometimes Odom is listed as PF or SF depending on Phil's lineup. If Phil is drawing up a play and says, "Pf goes here", then Odom knows and Josh Powell knows what they need to be doing if they are put on the court as a PF for that offensive play. It's a lot easier that way, as opposed to calling people out by name and saying, "Odom, you're gonna be doing this on the next play".
