Andre 3k really is the male Lauryn Hill, both are kind of overrated and haven't shown they can make a classic solo rap album. I also agree that overall Big Boi is the better overall artist (same thing for Wyclef), i feel as if Big Boi is the one who kept Outkast centered and ''normal". I respect Dre alot, dude is dope as ? but to be quite honest he doesn't have the solo work to justify the hype, we've seen Big Boi hold down solo rap albums for the most part.

Holding down a album by yourself is totally different dude, it's easy to bounce ideas off Big Boi. When youre a solo artist you have to spit 2 16 bars, create the hooks, chorus, pick beats,etc on your own. That's why i cannot put Andre on the level of establish dudes level, who the ? did Nas,Jay,Face,Pac,etc have to bounce ideas off of. They didn't have a Big Boi coming up with killer choruses and balance them out. -

Classic r and b album, that ? aint rap. The songs that blew her up were all r and b songs (that thing, everything is everything, ex factor). -

Well maybe one day when he applies all this knowledge to a HIPHOP album i will respect it, but until then he will be overrated to me. I think alot of people are giving him the benefit of the doubt based on his potential to make a great rap album but potential doesn't mean ? . See Bun B! -

Cosign. Plus i've never heard a wack verse from Andre 3k while the same cant be said for Big Boi. Clearly Andre 3K wuz rippin every track in the 90s & most importantly had the better verses in Aquemini,Atliens & Southplayalistic and every other Outkast record.Jus cuz Big Boi dropped a dope record dont mean that he's a better Emcee than 3K. To me Big Boi is jus like Raekwon.an emcee who has been able to hold his own in a dope group but not as talented as other emcees in the respective group. Dre>>>>Big Boi by a country mile. -
I'm gonna guess nobody is goin to question big boi's skills and ablilties on here. No doubt Big Boi is a beast on the mic and it wouldn't be disputed if he's in some cats top 10. He doesn't do one thing great, he does a lot of things good.....damn good. But in 3 stack's case how many times have you heard a way out 3k song or when you heard his name say WTF and later like that track. I don't know about u but since the ? been out i have been constantly doing that. 3 stacks is one of the best ARTISTS out there in addition to being a dope ass rapper. To all these cats thats talkin about overrated answer me this how can you overrate quality. The reason we rate 3stacks so high is because we have NEVER heard him come weak. I agree with the Speakerboxx/Love Below convo that with Big Boi makes it platinum, but 3 stacks makes it Diamond. I tell you what if 3 stack EVER comes out with a strictly rap solo album he will ? the game.

Nah. Dre 3000 is better to me. But the fact that Big Boi has now dropped an incredible solo album does move him up in the ranks. If Dre doesn't continue to make music, and Big Boi does then there may be more of a case for saying Big Boi is better. but as of now I still think Dre is better.
Don't get me wrong though I don't underestimate Big Boi. I've had Big Boi's album on repeat for days and I did a thread called "name another rapper that could do a 100 tracks keeping up with Andre 3000" to show that hardly anyone is ? with Big Boi -
i agree BB and Dre are closer than people say. But i say 60-40 in favor of Dre. it's closer than Treach and Vinnie in N by N (i got Treach 85-15 in that one). But as far as the solo album thing, Speakerboxx/Love below was 2 solo albums just packaged together. so i disagree with your claim of Dre never doing a solo album with his own vibe. Ironically though, I thought SpeakerBoxx was better than Love Below...even though i think Dre is the better rapper in the group. Problem is, Love Below wasn't a rap album. Yes, people will say 3 Stacks is the better rapper, and has been the better group member. And while I can agree with that, let's not act like he's light years better than Big Boi. IMO it's closer than most people think. As a group, I give it 55%-45% in favor of 3 Stacks. In the 90's, 3 Stacks >>> Big Boi.
But from 2000 - present, you can make a case for Big Boi being better than Andre. In fact, Stankonia was a tie for me. And everything after that, Big Boi >>>>. He has stayed consistently great, while 3 Stacks has really fluctuate. He has been a hit or miss. Also, Big Boi has put in alot more work than Andre has. With Speakerboxxxx/Love Below, Big Boi finished his side really quickly, while Andre took forever to finish his part. 3 Stacks work ethic has beenvery ? compared to that of Big Boi. Still, you could have said that 3 Stacks had the slight advantage...
Until now. Big Boi's new debut solo album has been leaked, and it's a great ? album. I've been playing it non-stop and I will be coppin it when it drops on Tuesday. And this is what gives Big Boi the advantage. Yes Andre has been slightly better as a member of Outkast (and Big Boi is actually right behind him), Big Boi has dropped a very dope album and has proven himself as a solo artist. Andre hasn't released a solo album. He hasn't proven that he can drop a dope album without the help of his partner. Big Boi has. And yes it is a big deal. If a rapper can't prove himself as a credible solo artist, then I have a hard time placing him above somebody that has. It's like in wrestling: if 2 wrestlers are a great tag team, but the inferior member of the team turns out to be a great solo wrestler, he should be placed above a wrestler who is a tag team specialist but hasn't proven himself as a solo wrestler.
I'm not putting down 3 Stacks, he is a great rapper and the better member of Outkast (marginally). But until he drops a very dope solo album, Big Boi >>> -
