i posted my first poem BROKEN WARRIOR with them and make a lil change perhaps you can too.
Broken Warrior
In a room alone
A soldier sits preparing his gun
Cleaning
Oiling
Inspecting every part
He knows a battle is coming soon
He quickly gathers his uniform
Readying his pack
Preparing his boots
Knowing the call of duty comes
He buries his fear
Quoting some forgotten psalm
This is my rifle…
…this is my gun…
He steels himself inside
Confining any hint of emotion
He has seen the hand of death
He knows there is a chance this tour he might die
He still readies himself
Finishing as there is a knock at the door
An important letter arrives
It reads simply
Dear Mr. Soldier
The war is over
No new enemy is found
No severe threat has to die
He stumbles back confused
He wants to keep reading but his eyes are failing him now
He suddenly realizes
He didn’t have to take his own life
