Chinese readers strain to understand the political incentives for arguing against providing care. A piece about how the Supreme Court’s decision will affect the campaign, broadcast on China National Radio today, struggled to explain how rational voters could find common cause with a party that seeks to prevent them from gaining access to care. “More and more poor people in America will realize that the Obama Administration is truly on their side.” There was something quaint in its conclusion: “This whole debate over health-care reform is a good thing for the Obama Administration. For the Republicans, it’s a miscalculation.”

"I think there is a lot of whistling past the graveyard going on among conservatives who think that Obamacare is really in the political crosshairs now, and indeed, could lead to the defeat of the president’s reelection effort. I worry that the opposite is true. Sure, opponents who care a lot about the constitutionality and policy propriety of the ACA are very upset and motivated to defeat the president. But they already were. For the relatively uninvolved, the message of the Roberts ruling, despite the justice’s protests to the contrary, is that Obamacare is A-okay. That will increase the law’s popularity — just as Roe v. Wade did with abortion. Alas," - Wesley J Smith, National Review

And a half dozen top on-air reporters and producers within the esteemed news organization told BuzzFeed they are furious at what they see as yet another embarrassment to a network stuck in third place in the cable news race, and torn between an identity as the leader in hard news and the success of their opinionated, personality-driven rivals, Fox News and MSNBC.

“? humiliating,” said one CNN veteran. “We had a chance to cover it right. And some people in here don’t get what a big deal getting it wrong is. Morons.”

“Shameful,” another long-time correspondent told BuzzFeed.

"It's outrageous and embarrassing,” a third CNN staffer vented. “Maybe this will shake the company into understanding that CNN has not been the 'most trusted name in news' for a very long time."

LMFAO FOX GOT IT WRONG TOO BUT FIXED THAT ? LITERALLY A MINUTE LATER LOL SMH

"Cable news needs to shut itself down. They failed high school newspaper tests this morning. There's no excuse whatsoever. They really ought to be ashamed. Covering live events is all they're really good for any more, if you are not partial to screeching propaganda or pure CNN tedium. And they even ? that up - in a way many pajama-clad amateurs didn't."

"Remember, most Americans have no idea what this does; they've just been told it's either a terrible, awful, horrible scheme to allow the government to form death panels to ? them or it's a terrible, awful, horrible illegal power grab by that socialist/Communist/Kenyan anti-colonalist in the White House. Well, the second part turns out to be false. And it's hard to build a suitable conspiracy theory to explain away today's ruling when John Roberts is the decider on this."

http://andrewsullivan.thedailybeast.com/2012/06/live-blogging-scotus-healthcare-ruling.html

Roberts peered into the abyss of a world in which he and his colleagues are little more than Senators with lifetime appointments, and he recoiled. The long-term war over the shape of the state goes on, but the crisis of legitimacy has been averted. I have rarely felt so relieved.

Stocks are reacting very much as analysts predicted in the event that the law was upheld. Hospital stocks such as HCA (up 8%) and LifePoint (up 4%) are rising because the law is likely to result in increases in volume for their businesses without added costs. Insurers such as Wellpoint and Cigna (down 4% and 5% respectively) are dropping because the law is likely to crimp their profit margins.[/i]

"[W]e may learn that President Obama sacrificed his presidency to push through this piece of legislation — the Dems already lost Congress over it. But presidencies are for doing important things not just for getting elected to second terms in office. And I strongly suspect that even if Mitt Romney wins and gets a Republican Congress, they still won’t be able to get rid of this law.

That counts. That matters."

Yeah I lol'd at idiots moving to a country where they have universal healthcare myself. Obama's fascist law shouldn't be applauded though. Forcing people to BUY healthcare is immoral & wrong.

If you really want to insure everybody you would make healthcare a right, give it to everyone.

I'm not surprised the Supreme Court upheld it, they are bought off. Insurance companies will be flooded with new customers and businesses can cut benefits because they no longer have to pay for people's health insurance. Walmart already started cutting what little benefits they did have when the law passed.

Republicans are lying about it making it difficult to do business because it doesn't force businesses to provide healthcare, if anything it will create a need for wage increases so people can buy it themselves.

    1) the whole point is that poor ppl get federal subsidies to help them buy it

    2) without the mandate, this type of reform simply doesn't work, ask Paul Krugman

    3) they did it in Massachusetts and it works fine, ask Romney LMFAO

Yeah, that'd be nice. Unfortunately this ? is less politically feasible in Congress than Marijuana Legalization. As it stands, Obama's "fascist law" is merely the biggest expansion and reform of U.S Health Care since LBJ.

Yeah, I see little wrong with the law, minus the short term cost. Long term, it will definitely save money. We have money for endless wars and the Pentagon, we might as well have money for widespread healthcare. Small businesses will no longer be able to take advantage of their employees and pay a fair share, along with every other American. I give Obama his credit for this one.

I guess another worry I have is, where are all the doctors and nurses going to come from? More people being covered means inevitable rationing, so hopefully there will be more doctors and nurses to cover the millions being covered now. At the same time, Cuba has free healthcare and so does North Korea, so the "richest" nation in the world should have at least more affordable healthcare. Even Iraq has free healthcare.....

preventative care should create less of a need for doctors. There is technology coming about that is making invasive surgery easier. There are plenty of nurses as i know a lot of females that take up that practice. Maybe the government can step in here and train more doctors with free education. Doctors have to limit their Good question though.

Republicans don't sleep. I'm for the decision though. Obama is really trying to convince people it isn't a "tax" though. I found the whole situation regarding Romney hilarious.

YEAH! I thnk that would solve alot of Americas problems - most people never appreciate what they have unil they lose it. IMO most of the current gneration in America DON'T have any respect for what this country affords them. Seriously as long as I've been around this site - I RARELY see anyone talk about the good aspects of America - most just complain and compalin about what they haven't got - endlessly. GO! JUST LEAVE and let us live in peace.

Laugh Laugh! my point of view stands, I never said anything about how one should actually show ones patriotism - I've told folks this repeatedly - content is what I go by and your character and color means nothing to me. This site is notorious for being THE MOST DANGEROUS & now you gotta claim otherwise? Incidentally I never categorically stated for people to leave. BTW us means peace loving folks - Y should any civil society want trouble makers within & not speak out about it.

Another important part in the clause that for some reason Republicans didn't look over was the clause that is going to require Health Care companies to spend at least 80% of their earnings on actually providing care for their customers. I think this is a great mandate and hopefully this will lead to Universal Health care.
