    Monkey D. Luffy
The captain of the Straw Hat Pirates, Luffy comes from Fuschia Town. He had the highest bounty in East Blue at 30 million Belli after his defeat of Arlong, but the bounty increased to 100 million Belli after he defeated Shichibukai member Sir Crocodile, and again to 300 million Belli (on level with the Shichibukai members) after defeating Rob Lucci of CP9, the destructions of Enies Lobby and declaring war on the World Government.

Luffy is the son of Monkey D. Dragon, brother to Portgas D. Ace, and the grandson of vice-admiral Monkey D. Garp.

Luffy is the captain and strongest member of the Straw Hat Pirates. He currently holds the highest bounty of any pirate from the East Blue. In his present journey, he has defeated extremely powerful foes, such as Sir Crocodile, Enel and Rob Lucci, as noted by his extremely high bounty of 300,000,000 Beli.

Many times he has survived severe injuries and massive blood loss. His skills, developed by the hellish training he was subjected to as a child by his grandfather, are backed up by his unstoppable determination, making him nearly impossible to keep down during a fight. However, it also seems possible that he naturally has superhuman strength since all members of his family are incredibly strong, and Luffy himself is never seen training on the ship like Zoro. Luffy is capable of crushing steel with his bare fingers and breaking through thick bedrock with relative ease. His most astonishing feat of strength by far was causing two huge buildings he was stuck in between to collapse by simply pushing them away with his bare hands.

Though seemingly dimwitted, Luffy is quite ingenious when it comes to combat and has shown great adaptability. For example, he figured out how to counter Enel's Mantra, found out Crocodile's vulnerability to water, and later learned Soru just from seeing it in action. Luffy is constantly developing new attacks to keep up with his foes, the most dramatic development being Gears 2 and 3 because of his loss to Aokiji.

Luffy gained stretching powers from eating the Gomu Gomu no Mi, which is one of the rare and legendary Devil Fruits. After consuming the Gomu Gomu no Mi, Luffy's body became rubber, giving him the ability to stretch every single part of his body to great lengths. He is able to use the malleable stretchiness of his limbs to gain tremendous velocity and hit enemies with devastating impact. His rubber body is virtually immune to recoil from these attacks, and blunt objects such as punches, and even bullets, reflect off him harmlessly. Being rubber, Luffy also resists electricity, which gave him an advantage while fighting Enel. However, he is still very susceptible to sharp objects such as swords, but still has more resistance than normal flesh and bone. Luffy can also be hurt by physical attacks if they are powered with an emotion, as demonstrated by his grandfather and Nami. Like all Devil Fruit users, Luffy cannot swim, although he could not swim even before he ate his Devil Fruit anyway.

Due to the fact that Luffy hates missing his meal while asleep (especially after a battle) he developed an ability to eat while sleeping, as well as being able to figure out in less than a second how many meals he has missed if unconscious for a period of time (counting five meals each day). These traits also seem to be common with Luffy's family, as seen with his brother Portgas D. Ace and his grandfather.

Captain of the Mugiwara (Strawhat) Pirates.

Luffy is renowned for wearing his trademark Straw Hat (in which he gets his nickname 'Straw Hat Luffy' from) which was given to him when he was young by the legendary pirate captain Red-Haired Shanks. His outfit includes short trousers and sandals, and a red vest. Luffy has a scar underneath his left eye, which he caused in order prove he is mature and is not afraid of pain and short black hair.

At first glance, Luffy does not appear to be very intelligent. However, because he views the world in a straightfoward and simple manner, he is occasionally the only person who can see past the events and see what should be done. He sees the world in a childish manner.

Although Luffy is fairly lightheaded and a funny character, he has an unstoppable sense of determination, optimism and commitment and will do anything to stand up for his friends and comrades. Luffy is simple-minded and can easily be amazed by the simplest things. He likes to make fun of other's imperfections and character traits, despite the fact that he is usually worse than them. Luffy seems to have an unstoppable appetite, a characteristic that is common to the Japanese archetype of the (at times simple-minded) young male hero/adventurer with a heart of gold; perhaps the hunger more so in Luffy's case. One comical scene involved him eating an entire wheelbarrow full of fruit in the blink of an eye, followed by Zoro and Sanji loudly dismissing the spectacle as some kind of trick. He also seems to have little to no fear, only truly fearing his grandfather to the point that he does not fight back and is intimidated at the mere mention of him. Along with that, he has great courage to back it up as well as unbelievable strength. Ever since consuming the devil fruit he was shown to be not worried about his inability to swim, much like his brother. An example of this is because when they are sailing he can usually be found on the bowsprit of the Going Merry, he calls this his "special seat" and is usually hanging off of it without minding the danger of falling overboard. Much of these traits are common among Ds.

Luffy is the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates and is best friends with all of them and values them over all else. They are all usually annoyed by his immaturity and stupidity but they all respect him for his qualities as a natural-born leader and his strength. All the members of the Straw Hat Pirates have complete faith and trust in Luffy, even if they often scold him for doing something thoughtless. Despite almost always being clueless and happy, in serious battles and whenever someone threatens his crew or if they are in danger he will become incredibly enraged and serious and gains a distinct killer instinct.

Luffy never kills any of the villains, no matter how cold-hearted they are; instead, he frequently sends the villain flying, knocking them out or until the point that they are almost near death, which results in some of the villains searching for revenge, such as Buggy the Clown and Alvida. Oda explains that it's not a question of morality so much as a matter of punishing the villains for their crimes - he feels that killing the villains lets them off too lightly, whereas he considers letting them live to see their dreams be ruined a far more fitting punishment.

Luffy's dream is to find the One Piece and become Pirate King. He knows that to achieve his goal, he will have to defeat many strong opponents, including the World Government and his childhood hero Shanks. He is not frightened by this, but anticipates the fight.

    Nami
Nami was found with Nojiko on a battlefield by a marine named Bell-Mere. Nojiko, being very young and holding the baby Nami in her arms, stumbled to Nojiko. When asked about Nami, Nojiko simply replied that she had found her. From that day, Bell-Mere adopted both. All three grew together as a family in Cocoyashi Village.

One day, however, the city was overtaken by a fish-man pirate, Arlong. Arlong imposed a fee on every person in the village, including children. If this fee was not payed, it would mean nothing other than death. Bell-Mere did not have enough money to pay for her and her two adopted children, and Arlong caught word of this. Using Bell-Mere as an example to all the other people in Cocoyashi village, she was shot infront of her two children and everyone else. Nojiko escaped, but Nami was taken by Arlong. Arlong was aware that Nami was a map maker, so he made a deal with the young girl. If she brought him 100 million belli, then she could buy back her village. Nami agreed to this, and for 8 long years, she stayed as Arlong's cartographer and stealing treasure from pirates to gain enough money.

However, all of this changed when she ran into Luffy in Orange Town where Buggy the Clown was currently inhabiting. Nami was only after Buggy for the treasure, so she joined up temporarily with Luffy in order to get it. After Buggy was defeated and the treasure was found ( which Luffy gave to the townspeople afterwards ), Nami stayed with Luffy for a while as they traveled through Syrup Village where they picked up Usopp and until they reached the Baratie. It was here that Nami left Luffy and the rest of the Strawhats. She took all the treasure that they had gathered and sailed away from them, heading back toward her hometown. Nami was close to having just enough, just 7 million belli away. But once she reached the island, she discovered that Arlong had been dealing with a marine who went by the name Nezumi. In order for Arlong to keep his stay at Cocoyashi Village, he had been secretly paying him. This time, he told Nezumi to take all of Nami's saved money, thus enforcing her to stay his cartographer for even longer.

Later on, Luffy finally reaches the island. He soon finds Nami in the middle of the street crying. She had tried to stop the townspeople from going after Arlong, but her attempt had failed. She was now alone, all because of Arlong. She whipped up a dagger and began stabbing herself in the arm, right where her tattoo of Arlong's flag was. Over and over again, until blood began running down her arm, she continued to pierce that symbol, screaming Arlong's name in anger. Suddenly, Luffy catches Nami's arm, stopping her from continuing. Nami, finally, after seeing Luffy, says that she needs help.

Agreeing, Luffy takes his Strawhat off and puts it on Nami's head. He, along with Usopp, Sanji, and Zoro, head to Arlong park to get rid of Arlong. All of arlong's men are defeated, and, after a long battle, Luffy finally defeats Arlong, destroying all of Arlong Park with him. Standing up from out of the rubble, Luffy yells at the top of his lungs, "Nami, you are my nakama!"

    Roronoa Zoro
Zoro spent most of his childhood in a dojo, training. Zoro worked hard, and because of this, he could beat almost everyone in the dojo, even most adults. However, his sensei's daughter, Kuina, was the one and only person he could not defeat. No matter how hard he trained, and no matter how hard he fought against her, victory could not be achieved against her.

After Kuina's 2000th fight, and victory, against Zoro, Zoro challenged Kuina to another private fight with real swords. Kuina agreed, and that night, they fought. After mere seconds, Kuina was the victor. As Zoro laid on the ground, he began to scream out in anger that if he could not beat Kuina, then he couldn't be the greatest swordsman. After Kuina heard this, she began to cry, because that was also her dream. Kuina then said that she couldn't fufill this dream. Her father had told her that because she was a female, she would grow and mature into a woman, a physically weaker person than men. Zoro yelled back at her, telling her that saying such things were stupid, and he couldn't even beat her. That night, they both made a vow, that one day; one of the two of them would become the greatest swordsman in the entire world.

The next day, Zoro discovered that Kuina had died by falling down the stairs in her house. After the funeral, Zoro remembered what he had promised. So he decided himself that he would become the greatest swordsman in the world for both of them. He asked the sensei for Kuina's sword, eyes filled with tears, saying that he would be the best for both of them. So Zoro was given Wado Ichimonji, Kuina's sword. This is when he first developed Santoryu, three-sword style. Now Zoro fought with 3 swords, two in each hand, and Wado Ichimonji in his mouth. For the next few years, Zoro trained vigorously, from dawn till dusk, getting stronger and stronger.

Eventually, Zoro left his Dojo and headed out. After gaining bounties to earn money, he quickly gained the name "Pirate Hunter Zoro". Later, after getting caught in an incident with Helmeppo, Captain Morgan's son, he met Luffy. A short time after, he joined Luffy's pirate crew.

    Usopp
Usopp was born in Shiropp Village. As a young boy, his father, Yasopp, left with Shanks when he joined the Red-Haired Pirates. Not long after, his mother fell ill. Usopp always tried to help her, and he would continually tell her that one day dad would come back home. Eventually, however, she died.

Every day, he would run out through the streets, yelling at the top of his lungs that the pirates were coming. This came to be a habit for Usopp since his mother died, although it severely bothered the villagers.

Usopp grew up alone in his own house. One day, he gathered together three people, Ninjin, Tamanegi, and Piiman. He stated that together they would be pirates, and he named their group the Usopp Pirates, Usopp himself as captain. One day, he met Kaya, a young girl who was sick and stayed in bed most of the time. Usopp took the place in cheering her up by telling her crazy stories of his pervious adventures. Although all of these were crazy lies, they seemed to cheer Kaya up.

A long while later, Luffy and his small crew of only Nami and Zoro came up to shore here. After a plan of Kuro, who is Kaya's butler, is revealed, the plan of which he kills Kaya and takes her fortune, Luffy takes a stand and defeats Kuro. Kaya, in thanks to Luffy, gave Luffy and the strawhats a ship, the Going Merry.

As Luffy and his crew were on the shore of the island getting ready to set sail on their new ship, Usopp was also getting ready to leave out to sea on a small boat of his own. He was planning on becoming a great pirate like his father. Then, when he came back to Kaya, he would tell her real stories, and not made up ones. Just before Usopp boards his boat, Luffy wonders why he isn't getting on the ship. He says that Luffy is one of his nakama. Zoro continues by telling him to go ahead and get on the ship.

Thrilled, Usopp jumps into the air, right toward the ship.

Usopp traveled with the Strawhats until they reached the island Water 7. This is when Usopp and Luffy gets in a fight over the Going Merry. Luffy learned that it cannot be repaired, and that they have to get a new ship. In a fit of rage, Usopp leaves the crew, demanding Luffy to a duel, the winner would take Merry. Even though Usopp lost, Luffy still let Usopp keep the ship, leaving him along with the rest of the crew with tears in his eyes.

Later on, on top of one of the sea trains, Usopp puts on a mask and a long red cape and becomes Sogeking. He keeps this identity all the way through the rest of Water 7 and Ennies Lobby. All of the crew new this was really Usopp except Luffy and Chopper. Even though Usopp took off his mask once to encourage Luffy, he never figured it out.

After the conclusion of Ennies Lobby, Luffy and the crew had received a new ship, the Thousand Sunny, which was belt by Franky and the rest of the Galley-la. As the ship is sailing away, trying to avoid fire from a marine named Garp, Usopp arrives and starts yelling at them, trying to tell them not to leave him there. Zoro had stated that they should not let him on the ship unless his first words were "I'm Sorry." However, Usopp hadn't said that, but was yelling out other things. So, Zoro and Luffy simply stated that they couldn't hear Usopp. Finally, Usopp scrams at the top of his lungs "I'm sorry!". Luffy smiles and stretches his hand out to the shore back to Usopp. Usopp grabbed a hold and was brought back onto the ship. He had rejoined the crew.

    Sanji
t was Nine years ago that Sanji was working on a ship in the North Blue as a chef. However, a famous pirate, one named Red Leg Zeff, suddenly attacked the ship taking whatever they could. Both ships, however, sank that day when suddenly a huge storm came and washed them both to the bottom of the sea. Zeff survived, and saved the young Sanji also. They washed up on a huge rock that stood outposted in the middle of the sea.

On this huge rock, there was nothing. There was no vegetation, no animals of any kind and no food in sight. All that had washed up on shore with them was some rations of food. Zeff gave Sanji a small bag of food, and kept a very large sack for himself, then told Sanji to go over to the other side of the island. When Sanji argued about how Zeff's sack was larger, Zeff simply replied that his stomach was larger. So Sanji crossed the rock and stayed on the other side, looking out for a boat so that he could get off the island. Many, many days passed by and there was no sign of a ship anywhere in sight. Sanji had seperated his rations into many days, but now they were winding down. Weeks passed, and Sanji only had one small piece of bread left, which he accidentally dropped into the sea below. Even more weeks passed, and Sanji grew thinner and thinner. Through the rain and the hot sun, Sanji was slowly starving to death.

One day, he took out a knife and looked over at Zeff's side of the island. To his surprise, Zeff still had a huge sack by his side, as if it hadn't of even been touched the last few weeks. Running at Zeff in rage, he stabbed the sack, ripping it open. To his surprise however, there was no food in the sack, but instead it was full of treasure and gold. He looked at Zeff, speechless. He had given him the only food they had. But Sanji wondered how Zeff had survived without eating anything. Then he discovered it. Zeff was missing a leg ( in the anime, it was changed so that Zeff's leg had been ripped off when he was saving Sanji ). Suddenly, Zeff fell backwards, on the verge of passing out. With his last few words he told of Sanji of a paradise on the Grand Line. An ocean where every kind of fish appears. It was the All Blue. Zeff also explained of how if he survived, he wanted to make a floating restaurant. One that could feed anyone even in the middle of the sea. At that moment, Sanji agreed. He agreed that if he survived, he would help Zeff feed anyone who was hungry no matter what. After that, they both passed out. Not long after, they were rescued by a ship that had travelled by the rock a few days earlier.

For the next 9 years, Sanji grew up with Zeff, learning everything he new about cooking and fighting from him.

    Tony Tony Chopper
Tony Tony Chopper, or Chopper for short is from Drum Island, was first a normal reindeer. However, he held something all the other reindeer did not have: A blue nose. This nose caused the other reindeer to be mean to him and disregard him.

But one day, his normal reindeer life changed completely. Chopper unknowingly ate the Hito-Hito no Mi (Human Human Fruit or Person Person Fruit). This fruit gave him the amazing ability and traits of a human being. Because of this, he was teased and hated even more by his herd, and now knowing this because of his newfound intelligence that grew with the fruit, he left the herd to go somewhere on his own. A little later, as he was walking through the snow, he collapsed from blood loss and wounds. Luckily, a crazy old doctor named Hiruluk found him and rescued him. He was taken in by the doctor as a friend and “assistant.” Even though his deeds were of low medical value, Chopper started to look up to him as his role model. As he grew with Hiruluk, Hiruluk taught chopper his view of philosophy on life that all diseases and sicknesses could be cured, and that there were none that could not. He explained that his strong faith in the Jolly Roger was a symbol of strength and courage against all odds. They went door to door, administering there “cures”.

Eventually Hiruluk’s health started to steeply decrease; he knew that his time was running short, so once again Chopper was out in the cold snow, because Hiruluk didn’t want Chopper to know he was dying. Chopper later found out why Hiruluk kicked him out, and decided not to give up, and was determined to find a cure for his teacher and only friend. He found out very soon what to do, a special mushroom in a book with a skull and crossbones clearly on the picture, not knowing what it meant. So Chopper decides to go and look for the mushroom, he takes the book, and leaves. Chopper comes back to the doctor injured and weak, with a broken horn, but he found the mushroom. Hiruluk ate the mushroom anyway to show his appreciation and love for Chopper knowing that he would eventually die anyway. He later finds out from Dr. Kureha that the mushroom is fatally poisonous and that the doctor would surely die. In front of King Wapol’s Castle where he had wanted to heal the sick before he died, he told them he had lived a wonderful life and committed suicide by blowing himself up before being killed by the poison, for Chopper’s sake. Hiruluk’s last wish was for Dr. Kureha to teach Chopper medicine, so for the next 6 hard years, Chopper worked as hard as he could, and studied to become a great doctor.

Soon after, the straw hat pirates came to Drum Island in search of a doctor to cure Nami of a bad illness. Through a series of events, Luffy, Sanji, and Nami ended up at Drum Castle, a place that Hiruluk and Kureha annexed after King Wapol fled the land. Chopper, naturally disliking and distrustful of humans, was displeased, especially since Luffy and Sanji were wanting to eat him. But later when Chopper showed his skill in medicine and combat Luffy offered, or forced him the position of ship’s doctor in his crew. Chopper was at first unwilling to leave the island. However, when he started to remember Hiruluk’s wish for Chopper to one day go out and explore the world on his own to broaden his medical skills, he decides to join Luffy and his crew. Leaving the castle with the Straw Hat Pirates, Chopper was given a send-off of unbelievable proportions. Kureha had turned the snow into cherry blossoms, the very same that Hiruluk had studied over 30 years that would one day cure the people of Drum of their "sickness of the heart", a request from Hiriluk passed to Dr. Kureha as one of his last wishes. Drowning in tears, Chopper made a fond farewell to his birthplace and mentors, setting out to sea for the first time in his life.

    Nico Robbin
Nico Robin, daughter of the popular archeologist Nico Olivia, was born 28 years ago on the island of Ohara in the West Blue. When Robin was only 4 years old, her mother left with a crew of archeologists, leaving Robin alone with her mother's brother. During her entire early childhood, she was treated badly by her uncle and aunt. She was abused and yelled at many times for small reasons, such as trying on her cousins clothes.

It wasn't only her aunt and uncle abusing Robin, but the townspeople were verbally abusing her also. Robin knew that the parents of the other kids told them to stay away from her because of her Devil Fruit ability ( the ability to sprout body parts in different places ). Most children reffered to her as the "Devil Child". However, there was one place on the small island of Ohara where Robin could find peace and be happy. It was a library which was located in a huge tree known as the Tree of Knowledge. It was here that Robin first met Professor Clover, who was an archeologist and a friend of Nico Olivia.

Her friendship with the Archeologists at the Lab only grew more and more over the years. She grew to call this new place as home. When she reached a meager 8 years old, she passed the archeologists test and official became an archeologist along with the rest of the people at the lab. However, when she mentioned to Professor Clover that her true ambition was to discover the True History, like her mother, she was scolded. Although Professor Clover was only yelling at her to keep her safe, since investigating on anything to do with the True Hisotry is illegal, Robin took it personal and ran off.

Later that same day, she came across a giant who had washed up on shore. The giant tried to scare Robin away, but Robin simply stood there. After Robin found out that the giant wanted water, they both went into a small secluded area on the island. This is when Robin learns this giant's name is Jaguar D. Saulo. Robin asked about the D., but even Saul didn't know what it meant. He only said that everyone in his family had this initial.

A few days passed, and Robin went to Saulo regularly, checking up on him and giving him food. Saulo was resting his leg that had been injured and was making plans to build a raft to move on. One day, however, Saulo discovered that the island he was on was Ohara, and immediatley went into a panic. He told Robin that the Buster Call, a fleet of ten huge navy ships, were coming to obliterate the island. Robin ran off to town, heading back to the Tree of Knowledge to tell the archeologists there.

At about the same time, Nico Olivia, the only survivor of the archeologists group that had set out 4 years ago, returned to Ohara. She went straight to the Tree of Knowledge, explaining to everyone what was about to happen and prepared a weapon. Right after this, without another word, she left outside. Clover had decided that when the government came, they would have to say that had nothing to do with any True History, even though they were learning all about it from a poneglyph in the Tree's basement.

The CP9 from 20 years ago came along with the Buster Call, appearing a little earlier. Here, they gathered all the townspeople and told them to get to the escape ship, then they rounded up all the archeologists, including Nico Olivia who had just been captured again. Robin stood nearby, looking on.

This is when Professor Clover gets to speak directly with the Five Elder Stars. He told them that he knew of the antient kingdom that existed many years ago. However, just before saying the name of this place, he was shot. This set Robin running toward him. Although Clover continually told Robin to leave, she did not move. This is also when she turns and sees her mother held by two CP9 agents. As they turn and walk off with her, Robin watches, her eyes filling with tears. She asks over and over if she was her mother, but Olivia could not answer. If anyone knew that Robin was the daughter of a criminal, she would also be punished.

However, as soon as the Buster Call arrives and starts to fire the bombs, destroying the island, Robin gets to come face to face with her mother. They both sit together, fire and bombs exploding in the background. Robin looks up to her mother and says this is all she ever wanted, and they stay together.

At about the same time, Saulo appears, seeing Olviia. They quickly recognize eachother. Saulo was once a Vice Admiral, and, after hearing Olivia's story in prison, she was released. Saulo also left after learning of her innocence. Now, Nico Olivia told Saul to take Robin to the rescue ship, and, although Robin was screaming that she didn't want to lose her mother again, Saul took her and ran off. This was the last time Robin seen her mother.

As Saulo ran through the island, constantly being shot by bombs from the Buster Call, he struggles to get Robin to the rescue ship. However, Saulo is interupted by Kuzan ( later known as Aokiji ). Kuzan freezes his leg with his ice Devil Fruit ability, sending Saulo crashing to the ground. Robin looked up to see that Saulo was know being completely frozen by the Vice Admiral Kuzan. Robin makes a run for the escape ship, however, all the people refuse to let her on. The ship sails off, but it suddenly explodes, something that was done by another Vice Admiral, Akainu. Although it was to make sure that no archeologist had escaped, it was a vile act.

This angered not only Saul, but Kuzan also. Saul then starts telling Robin, as Kuzan finished the job, that one day she would discover her nakama, the people who would always be there for her. At these last final words, Saul was completely frozen. Robin, crying, ran off away from Kuzan.

At the Tree of Knowledge, all of the archeologists are desperately trying to save the books by throwing them out of the windows and into the water. This is the last time we seen Olivia, or any of the other archeologists, or even the Tree of Knowledge.

Robin manages to escape Kuzan, however, he appears quickly later. Robin stared, afraid, but Kuzan make a pathway of ice for her to follow on a small raft. It was a token of gratitude since he was once friends with Saul. So, Robin left the burning island.

Robin goes through many homes as she grows up, and the government comes to try and capture her every time. However, she mangages to escape each time. One day, however, she meets a new man named Crocodile, and he accepts her into Boroque works as Vice President. He would ensure her safety if she would give him information on Pluton, an antient destructive weapon.

Soon later, Luffy and the Strawhat pirates enter the story, arriving at the shore of Alabasta with the Princess Vivi. This is also the island where Crocodile and Robin ( here known as Miss All Sunday ), were busy carrying out the plans to find Pluton. Soon later, each strawhat went to fight a seperate Boroque work agent. Luffy, eventually, fought Crocodile in an underground chamber. Here, after defeating Crocodile, he sees Robin. Robin had saved him earlier after almost being killed by Crocodile. However, now, Robin says she doesn't want to be saved in return. Her dream had been finished and she would rather die. Luffy ignores this and pulls her out of the crumbling chamber.

Later on, the Strawhats take their leave from island of Alabasta. Not long after, everyone discovers that Robin had snuck onto the ship. No one trusts here, but Robin says since she didn't have anywhere else to go, she would just join Luffy. Luffy said it was okay, and since then they had been sailing together.

    Franky (Cutty Flam)
When Franky was young, he was thrown off his parents pirate ship and out into the ocean to die. However, he was lucky enough to be saved by a famous Shipwright named Tom (Tom was also the shipwright who constructed Gold Roger's ship, the Oro Jackson). Tom took Franky into his home, where there, Franky met Tom's assistant, Iceburg. While with Tom, he learned a lot of shipbuilding, but most of his concentration and time went towards creating war ships used to fight giant sea-kings. He named these creations, Battle Franky.

However, Franky's life was turned upside down when Tom was put on trial for building Gold Roger's pirate ship. However, Tom was able to convince everyone that he could build a train that could travel across the sea ( This would primarily be used for trade. ), the Puffing Tom. So his punishment was subdued and put off until Tom finished the train. Tom's plan was that he hoped his sentence would be swayed after creating such a gift to Water 7, the island they were on. Fourteen long years passed by, and Tom's sentence was going to be swayed. However, this changed. Spandam, the CP9 leader, was after the plans of an antient weapon, Pluton, for the World Government. Spandam was aware that Tom had these blueprints, so he used Franky's Battle Franky ships and attacked Water 7. Everyone there was unaware that Spandam had done this, all of them thinking that it was Franky, Tom's apprentice. So in this sudden attack, Tom was sentenced to death.

Franky, outraged, tried to stop the Puffing Tom, the train he helped create, which was taking Tom away to be executed. Franky was completely run over by the train, terribly injured. He was announced dead. However, Franky survived the encounter with the ship, and rebult himself using spare ship parts. As time passed, Franky was able to put together an underworld group of people, the Franky Family, a bounty hunting group and a ship dismantler group. After he had been in business with the Franky Family, he went to Iceburg to discover he had the blueprints of Pluton that Tom left him. Surprisingly, Iceburg gave Tom the blueprints for safe keeping.

Four years later, a group of pirates known as the Straw Hat Pirates, came to shore on Water 7. The Franky Family mugged Usopp and taking all of the money they had gotten from Skyepei. After Luffy and the others discovered what happened, they went to the Franky House, the main headquarters of the Franky Family, and destroyed it completely. When Franky discovered what happened, he went and got in a fight with Luffy, wanting revenge, but their fight stopped abruptly when the townspeople through the blame of Iceburgs near assisination on the Straw Hat Pirates.

Franky then went back to Usopp, kidnapping him and taking him to an underground base where Tom used to work. Franky's plan was that the other strawhats would come, so that he could take revenge. However, since Usopp was no longer with the Strawhats, this plan was futile. Suddenly, Lucci, Kaku, Blueno, and Kalifa, CP9 members, came to the underground base, taking Franky and Usopp, heading to the government base, Ennies Lobby, to turn Franky into the government and retrieve the plans of Pluton.

They traveled toward Ennies Lobby via Puffing Tom, and although Franky was able to escape, he was captured again later. During this time, at Ennies Lobby, Franky took out the Blueprints of Pluton, and burned them right in the face of the CP9 members, and Spandam as well. After this, Franky joined with the Strawhat crew, taking on Ennies Lobby. He was placed against Fukurou, a CP9 agent, but, after some struggle, beat him. After a long trail of events, CP9 was finally defeated, and Franky headed back to Water 7 with the Straw Hats. In the latest chapter, the Franky Family has asked Luffy to take Franky into his crew since he recieved a bounty.

    Brook
Brook, a pirate originally from West Blue, who ate the Yomi Yomi no MI, was once a member and later the captain of the Rumbar Pirates. While sailing in West Blue, a young whale came upon their ship. Seeing the whale was sad, Brook suggested to Captain Yorki, that they play a song. The crew gave the young whale the name Laboon. Upon getting ready for the trip to the Grand Line, the Rumbar Pirates decided it was best to leave Laboon behind in West Blue, because of the dangers that awaited them.

After crossing Reverse Mountain, the Rumbar Pirates, found Laboon right behind them. Due to the damages their ship sustained when crossing Reverse Mountain, the Rumbar Pirates docked at the Twin Capes. There they carried on singing and dancing with Laboon. When the repairs were finished they made a deal with Laboon. Laboon would stay behind and when they had sailed around the world they would take Laboon on their adventures.

After Captain Yorki and some other crew members fell ill to an incurable disease, Brook became the new captain of the Rumbar Pirates. Through his adventures, he earned himself a 33,000,000 bounty. After venturing into the Florian Triangle the Rumbar Pirates were attacked; only a few including Brook survived. However because their attackers poisoned their weapons and the ship doctor had been killed, they all slowly succumbed to the poison and died. Yet they managed to play one final song for Laboon; which Brook recorded on the Tone Dial.

Thanks to the Yomi Yomi no Mi (Revive Revive Fruit), Brook’s soul was able to have a second life. Although due to the thick fog in the Florian Triangle, it took Brook 1 year to find his body. He then spent the next 50 years on the ship, unable to escape the Florian Triangle because the rudder was broken. Roughly 5 years before the start of the series, his ship came upon Thriller Bark where his shadow was taken by Moria.

    Appearance
Brook being a skeleton is mainly comprised of bones. He is extremely tall, standing 8 feet 8 ½ inches (2m 66cm). He wears an obviously tailored black suit, with matching shoes and top hat. Completing his outfit is his huge afro and his purple sword-cane.
    Personality
Brook is one of the light hearted, yet sometimes childish members of the Straw Hat Pirates. Despite having the “gentlemen” look, Brook can lack manners at the most inappropriate times. For example he frequently belches during a meal, request to see women’s panties, tries to borrow money from a female mermaid, and is very impatient when waiting for food. At the end of his “skull jokes” (a joke referring to him being a skeleton) he usually adds “Yohoho”.
    Strength
Although seemingly a little odd, he has various strengths common to One Piece. During his first life he at the Yomi Yomi no Mi (Revive Revive Fruit), thus gaining a second life when he died. He is quite comical in tough situations, yet he can be serious at the same time. Brook’s fighting style is focused around two things, his cane sword and music. Some of his techniques can put his enemies and at times his own crew mates to sleep. His swordsmanship most resembles fencing.

Not even close. The majority of OP anime episodes are cannon, but the animators tend to drag out some of the scenes in the anime.
