Firmware 4.30 goes live this Tuesday.

A new firmware update is incoming for PlayStation 3. The update, outlined by Sony, affects two things: Trophies and Life With PlayStation.

For starters, firmware update 4.30 will change how Trophies are viewed on PlayStation 3. The Trophy list will be moved on the CrossMediaBar (XMB) from the Games list to the PlayStation Network list. And most interestingly, Trophies earned on PlayStation Vita will finally be viewable on PlayStation 3. As it stands right now, you can see PS3 and Vita Trophies on Vita, but only PS3 Trophies on PS3, even if you’re using the same username across both machines.

Additionally, update 4.30 will usher in the final weeks of the Life With PlayStation application and its primary purpose -- the Folding@home service -- a collaboration between Sony and Stanford University. Folding@home was a way for idle PS3 users to lend “computation hours” to the university as it researched ailments such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. According to Sony, over 15 million gamers lent over 100 million “computation hours” to Stanford University’s research.

Update 4.30 will go live on Tuesday, October 23rd. Life With PlayStation, as well as Folding@home, will end completely in November.
