All in all, it's a good album, but its weak points to me are way worse than the weak points in his previous albums. Before, he'd have a couple goofy "Real Slim Shady" type tracks, which weren't even that bad depending on the mood of the listener. But Recovery had some corny pop tunes. I mean like, put your lighter in the sky while you hold hands together Twilight soundtrack type corny. I'd rather have a good laugh at a goofy accent than listen to some ? that sounds like something Miley Cyrus turned down cuz she's trying to shed her Disney image. This album ? me off cuz it's not bad, but Em can do better. A lot better.
I don't get how introspective can be labelled Pop yeah you can say it was catchy or the song had elements of mass appeal but a song where the Lyrics are introspective, their is a personal story, passion and just raw from the heart expression is never Pop.
Isn't the fact that an introspective Song is actually catchy at the same time a bonus since that is the hardest thing for an Artist to do?
I think it more so comes down to you just not liking introspective music or catchy music just a matter of your taste which is why most people thought it was a great album and why it was so succesful. It has sold over 6 million and is highly praised by alotta listeners
Aite... on the Eminem Show, that was a perfect example of introspecive and personal. Say Goodbye to Hollywood and Cleaning Out My Closest was vintage Em. His own sound, his own direction. But when you go from that to "I'm not afraaaaaaaid"... what the ? was that? Then he (or Just Blaze for that matter) literally sampled a techno song for No Love... how much more pop can you get? One of the most ridiculous technos songs in history at that... word to Night at the Roxbury. I respect him getting personal and introspective and all that, but when the music sounds like some ? my little sister would rock while jumping on her bed with her friends, I can't ? with it. But maybe that's why the album was so successful, he knew toning the sound down would bring in younger listeners... this isn't 2002 anymore after all. Again, good album lyrically, but the music... ugh.NikeAirMax wrote: »I'm not gonna vote, cuz I still don't know what to think of Recovery. He always made Music like on Recovery he had Rock Bottom and If I Had on his debut Album. I think Songs like NOt Afraid are specfically for people who been thrugh situations and personal struggles in their life so if you haven't been thru that i don't think you could understand feel the record like those it was intended for. I think Eminem knew macho people or people who are insecure about their masculinity will knock the Album label it soft not knocking you Lab just speaking generally, but Em doesn't care he was just doing him putting his heart and pain on wax and his true fans liked it.
Just my opinion
Respect. It's not about being macho for me... I'm bumping Tori Amos as I type this (who did an ill cover of Em's Bonnie and Clyde). I just feel like he has done and can do better with them type of songs. But that's him, he tried what he wanted and it worked out for him in the long run. Can't do nothing but respect it. -
Yes it is assEminem was rhyming much better beforeYo', never was a thug, just infatuated with guns,
never was a gangsta, 'til I graduated to one
Where on recovery is he rhyming 6 syllables? Show me one song where he is stringing multis this complex.
