Pro Wrestling is basically a monopoly.

WWE is a juggernault with no real competition.

TNA might have potential one day right now they're not ready though they are basically what the NWA was in the late 80s to the WWF.

NWA had a stronger foothold in their territories than TNA has. TNA is more like the AWA lol.

Vince can't take the chances he wants to because of public backlash so he turned it down. There's more money in PG programming (when it comes advertising, video games etc) but everything else is suffering...especially quality.

Don't be fooled though, Vince will drop the PG gimmick and go ? to the wall if he needs to.

Wrestling will probably never be as popular as it once was but it seems like fans have more problems accepting that than either company does.

Its fans going out of their way to compare everything to the Attitude Era, for WWE its history, for the most part they are past that ? .

The days of RAW ratings being in the 7s & 8s, 500+ buys for PPVs in May or June are over, the standards are much lower. There are a lot of reasons for that but one is that wrestling just isn't as mainstream as it used to be.

I think WWE is a lot more mainstream then it was back then that's why they had to tone ? down

No way in hell WWE is more mainstream now than it was in the Rock N Wrestling and Attitude eras. You got out there and ask the average person who John Cena is and they give you the gas face. You ask them who Hulk Hogan or Stone Cold Steve Austin is and they will at least know who you're talking about.

    There are several factors why

    1) The death of kayfabe and people seeing through wrestling's ? ruined the appeal especially in this age of "reality" TV obsession. This is why so many people follow MMA now. At least it's "Real".

    2) People don't rely on watching TV as much anymore. There is more competition from portable devices (Ie: tablets, smart phones etc.) and much greater reliance on using the internet as the primary form of entertainment now that everybody is at least a basic techie as opposed to when the net was only for neckbeards.

    3) The format of a wrestling TV program is not enough to compete with the formats of scripted shows they do watch like The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones.

There's nothing surprising in pro wrestling anymore. People have seen it all before and the stigma of it being "fake ? anyway" doesn't do it any favors. As entertainment technology keeps evolving and varying it will never grow past the ? wrestling fans and the more casual fans that have been conditioned by WWE thanks to their marky redneck parents.
