The Ravens placed the inside linebacker and former first-round pick on the reserve/retired list Wednesday afternoon, General Manager Ozzie Newsome announced.
“Rolando let me know that he plans to retire from the NFL,” Newsome stated. “We have placed him on the Reserve/Retired list.”
McClain signed a one-year contract with the Ravens on April 12, but was arrested just 10 days later in his hometown of Decatur, Ala. It was the latest in a string of off-field problems for McClain since entering the league in 2009 as the eighth-overall pick.
McClain was arrested in December of 2011 and charged with third-degree assault, among others.
In January, he was arrested after an officer pulled him over for a window tint violation. He reportedly pleaded guilty to that charge on May 6 and charges of providing false information were dropped, according to The Baltimore Sun.
McClain’s is due in court on July 9 for his most recent charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
McClain finishes his three-year NFL career with 274 tackles (195 solo), 6.5 sacks, one interception, one forced fumble and 23 passes defensed in 41 career games with Oakland.

Rolando was a 1st round draft pick and everyone had high expectations from him we actually thought that was a safe pick and he would actually be a good LB.

Wish he would have did this before the signing, but glad its out of the way before training camp.

What the Hell is wrong with McClain ???. He makes the NFL which is a dream for many then decides to throw it all away by acting like a idiotic simpleton. If he only put his "F The Police" tendencies aside and focus on tackling running backs instead of controversy, he might amount to something /:)

Why retire after signing a deal? -
Raiders sure know to pick em. I mean everyone thought this was a safe pick and look what happened. Robert Gallery, Russell , McClain, Gibson, etc... I don't know what it is but the raiders never seem to get it right. Even when they do they can never hold on to them or get the best out of them. McFadden stay hurt, they couldn't keep Woodson, just seems like bad stuff always happens to them.
