The 2013 Emmy nominations were announced early this morning, with Game of Thrones (16 noms), American Horror Story: Asylum (17 noms) and HBO's Behind the Candelabra (15 noms) leading the pack.

Netflix's "House of Cards" made Emmy history Thursday with a top drama series nomination, the first time that television's leading awards have recognized a program delivered online as equal in quality to the best that TV has to offer.

HBO easily dwarfed the networks, nabbing a whopping 108 nominations. Its closest rivals were CBS and NBC each with 53, ABC with 45 and Showtime with 31 while newcomer Netflix got its first taste of Emmy love with 14.

I don't watch any awards shows. I honestly can't remember the last time I did. However I do care about my favorite shows getting nods because it gives them mainstream media exposure and brings more eyes in their direction and increases awareness. Which helps extend the longevity of the shows since new viewers are gained.

reality shows have been getting emmys for a while. it's the competition shows where people actually have a skill like project runway & top chef that are nominated & usually win out. i think survivor has won a couple.

but yea there should be some type of cap on nominees/wins for shows. the comedy category is notorious for that usual suspects ? . always modern family & 30 rock winning ? every year.

John Stewart had a 10 year win streak. Still ? up how Real Time with Bill Mahr gets no recognition, it's better than both shows.
