To the world travellers or informed.....what are the top 5 worst nations to live in or visit?

I ask because my friend is going through a project for a non governmental organization that is looking to help the poor and less fortunate in nations all around the world, and I'd like a list of nations that really can use some help. We all know the usual list of countries based on watching the news: Iraq, Pakistan, North Korea, Haiti and Somalia all come to mind.

But I know people here in the Social Lounge tend to be smart and worldly, so I'm just wondering, what are some of the worst nations in the world to visit or live in, especially for children and young adults. Some of the input here may be useful to him, and honestly I'm just curious in general. I haven't traveled outside the nation much, aside from Canada but based on some general research, my list goes a little somethin like this.....poverty isn't the only issue making a "bad" nation, violence, poor health, corruption, and religious extremism also play a role. Anyway, my general list in no specific order:

Afghanistan
Pakistan
Haiti
Sierra Leone
Liberia, North Korea or Iraq undecided

To those who don't really know but would like to share some experiences in a "bad" or unfortunate place, that's welcome too

I hear you but North Korea executed the girlfriend of the current dictator just for being in a porn movie just last week. He killed other porn stars as well too for "corrupting the minds of the nation". That's pretty sick, isn't it?

I do give North Korea props for having free healthcare though....

I'd love to travel anywhere outside the US just because I've never done it before. I'd go to North Korea right now if I could just for the experience. I'd probably regret it though...

easy to have free healthcare in a country where you can easily send people to die in a gulag for talking reckless. minimizes the clientele.

Janklow's right. Any list that doesn't have North Korea at the top is basically a joke. Read about it in depth sometime, seriously, its horrible.

Haiti, Sierra Leone, etc you're basically talking about extreme poverty, and okay, that's bad, but...........

North Korea not only has that anyway, its arguably worse. Seriously: the worst famine of your lifetime happened in North Korea during the 1990s. 2 to 3.5 million people died during that famine. That's ? nuts. That's almost 10x the Ethiopia famine in the 80s.

And even though they prioritize *EVERYTHING* to the military, including food, its still bad enough that some soldiers grow their own food to survive. Think about that. What other country is so ? up that SOLDIERS have to worry about where their next meal come from? Taliban ? living in the mountains and African child soldier slaves living in the jungle don't have to worry about that ? .

    Death Camps? Check.

Crazy Racist ideology? Check. "The People's Republic of China returns all illegal immigrants from North Korea which usually imprisons them in a short term facility. Women who are suspected of being impregnated by Chinese fathers are subjected to forced abortions; babies born alive are killed." (Please note that China is literally their only friend in the world.)

^^^ - radio installed in all North Korea homes.....that have electricity, anyway. It broadcasts Gov't Propaganda 24/7. You can lower the volume, but not turn it off.

All the TVs and Radios have anti-tamper devices on them, which are inspected by the Gov't. Get caught modifying them so they can receive South Korean broadcasts, and you will be lucky if you & your entire family aren't shipped off to a labor camp.

"Authorities in North Korea have sentenced a popular North Korean comedian who once performed for the late dictator Kim Jong Il to an indefinite period of “hard labor” in a coal mine for a “slip of the tongue” during a performance last month, according to sources inside the country.

According to the source, Lee was among entertainers ordered by North Korean authorities to visit and perform for workers at the 150,000-acre Sepo project site, the brainchild of regime leader Kim Jong Un.

The source was unsure exactly what kind of “mistake” Lee had committed but said that he had been sent “straight to the coal mine in the middle of his performance.”

He was not even given permission to return home to prepare or say goodbye to his family, the source said."

lol i could go on for hours but I'll stop for now. TL;DR version: ? makes ? Germany look like Disneyland. I'd rather be stuck in The Walking Dead's world than North Korea. Fuuuuuuuuuuuck that.

Forget the health care, the ONLY upside is:

Drug trafficking can be punishable by death in North Korea, and even any consumption of narcotics can be fatal. Marijuana, however, is legal and often found growing freely alongside the road in North Korea.

    LMFAO

so yeah as to original topic

    - North Korea
    - Democratic Republic of the Congo (Liberia's civil war ENDED. DRC's only did on paper. Guerrilla armies are EVERYWHERE and everyone fights to exploit the country's absolutely ridiculous wealth of natural resources. War ? and child soldiers are depressingly common, every day ? . Nevermind all the diseases that will ? yo ass.)
    - Syria (CracceR is right, Afghanistan WAS shockingly modern before the Soviets invaded. Syria has always been an unstable ? that practically had a military coup every 6 months before Assad's dad took over. Worst active warzone in the world right now. Along w/ Iraq, its the prime example of a Post-Ottoman Empire country that srsly shouldn't exist and just be partitioned along ethnic/religious line.)

those are my big three, i got a bunch of runner-ups:

    - Columbia (low-level civil war raging for.........50 years now? Jesus.)
    - Mexico (yeah until Mexico goes back to the old system of taxing drug lords or the U.S legalizes HEROIN, this ain't getting better)
    - Yemen (Saudi Arabia is arguably *the worst* theocracy in the world, but you know what, if you're a Muslim visiting during the Hajj, you will have the most safe & mindblowing tourist trip imaginable. Oman is apparently "one of the most developed and stable countries in the Arab world". Dubai, Kuwait, Qatar etc. and those other tiny gulf states are basically giant resorts for extremely rich people now......built by overworked foreign slaves who work in 120 degree heat w/ no A/C, but still. Yemen on the other hand, is basically a mini version of Afghanistan with less resources and other redeeming qualities. Total ? .)
    - Burma (apparently slowwwwly improving but if you saw the last Rambo movie........yeah, pretty much. Any country w/ violent extremist BUDDHISTS ethnically cleansing minorities has some deep ? issues.)
    - Sudan (at least the Southern part of the country was able to escape Bashir's ? . John Garang was a true hero.)
    - Zimbabwe (forget the hyperinflation...at one point, 25% of all adults had ? . Fuuuuuck.)
    - Somalia (aka LIBERTARIAN PARADISE!)
    - Camden, New Jersey (LOL just kidding....sort of.)

Well ? , powerful post on North Korea, I did my research and you're right, ? . I think North Korea is the worst nation in the world, and while I respect the free growth of marijuana there, that doesn't make up for all the craziness taking place there.

I shouldv'e placed Mexico on the list too, considering it has the highest murder rate in the world now next to Honduras, but the cartels are way crazier then any gang in Honduras. SMH at Zimbabwe too, yeah I think Ima cross Haiti and Sierra Leone from the list for now...

I'm only gonna speak on nations I've been to and this is gonna be controversial for some who probably went, but Panama and Costa Rica showed me in actuality that Colombia must have some really bad parts. Everytime I talked to people there in that country when in those countries they talk about the child sex slave trade and just regular sex trade going on; or you hollar at the baddest babe you see and then get to talking to her and she's of age from Colombia and then your stereotypes or all the stuff someone just told you starts to kick in...and then you ask her how much and she say $10??? Just kidding. But for real, when you go to Costa Rica tourism spots and Panama Panama and talk to the women that are gonna make you get up they seem to be more from Colombia than those actual countries. Only point is again, when you talk to the natives of panama and costa rica they acknowledge the sex slave trade in colombia as being f'd up. Colombia's a big country so, I take it for what's it's worth like someone mentioning Chicago and judging all America or even the rest of chi-town for that instance...but it is what it is. I even messed with a few colombian women out there who weren't in the trade but did admit that they once were working girls; probably still were but just telling me some bs.Just now reading what swifness on top said about colombia.I'd still visit though, cause those women are a 7thwonder tourist site all to themselves

Colombia, i think, the problem is less the civil war (it's kind of a bogus civil war in some ways) as running afoul of criminals. but it's been much worse. but what also gets overlooked is Venezuela: the crime rate there is AWFUL

Damn I keep hearing all these things about Columbian women, I really gotta travel there one day....and yeah women tend to sell themselves real cheap in most poor nations, it shows the dollar still has a lot of power worldwide, although it doesn't carry very far here in America. My boy said he smashed 5 or 6 women in Dominican Republic, paying like 30 bucks a piece. He had threesomes and everything lol
