Microsoft exploring "hundreds" of Xbox One TV show ideas

Corporate vice president Phil Spencer says team is incubating numerous ideas for original programming, announcements coming "pretty soon."

Microsoft is currently exploring "hundreds" of concepts for original Xbox One TV programming, corporate vice president Phil Spencer told Bloomberg in a new interview.

"They have literally hundreds of ideas that they are incubating right now," Spencer said from the 2013 Tokyo Game Show. "We will have some new announcement for TV shows coming pretty soon."

Separately, Spencer told Reuters that Microsoft is "very close" to announcing some of these initiatives. He described these as "Nancy projects," referencing former CBS Television Studios president Nancy Tellem, who was brought on last year to lead a Los Angeles production studio creating "interactive and linear content for Xbox and other devices."

Some of the Xbox One-exclusive TV content in development will be unrelated to games, Spencer said. However, he explained, "I do think there will be a certain level of interactivity to what we do."

The only Xbox One TV programming announced thus far is the Halo show produced by Saving Private Ryan director Steven Spielberg and the upcoming Quantum Break show that will tie in to the game.

The Xbox One launches in 13 territories across the world on November 22 for $500.

I'm surprised they didn't do it with XBL on 360. But I heard MS tried to get Conan to do an XBL show when he left the tonight show. It could actually be a great vehicle for original series, like Netflix is doing with Orange or Cards.

Unless they charge a fee per episode on top of the XBL fee. In that case....

Xbox Entertainment Orders First Unscripted Series
Microsoft company to produce global soccer series Every Street United.
by Max Nicholson OCTOBER 15, 2013

During the Xbox One reveal in May, it was announced that Xbox Entertainment Studios, Microsoft's original content unit, was developing a Halo drama series produced by Steven Spielberg. Now, the company has greenlit its first unscripted series called Every Street Reunited, from Mandalay Sports Media.

According to Deadline, the show will focus on street soccer, with each half-hour episode shot in a different country -- the U.S., Spain, Holland, France, Argentina, Brazil, Ghana, South Korea -- featuring local, undiscovered soccer players across the globe. Exact details on the show remain scarce, although Deadline has heard that "the idea is [to] have the top player profiled in each episode in a finale episode shot at the 2014 World Cup. In it, the eight street players may lace up for a 4 vs. 4 and are expected to attend World Cup games."

Since this is an Xbox series, Every Street United is also expected to feature some type of global interactive component.

Major Nelson will suggest reviving Futurama as Xbox exclusive

Good news everyone! Fans of the animated show Futurama might have something to look forward to now that the show has aired its final episode. One unlikely supporter has showed up to pitch a revival of the series to Microsoft, and that supporter is none other than Major Nelson.

Talking to a member of the Neowin community on Reddit, Larry Hryb said the idea of a revived Futurama series as an Xbox exclusive sounded like a great one and that he would pitch it inside the company. Of course, he went on to say, this isn’t a promise of any kind but it should bring some hope to fans of the series.

Microsoft has been trying to bolster its TV entertainment department for the upcoming launch of Xbox One, so adding a show with a cult following among young people to its line-up can only help its efforts.

We’ll have to wait and see if anything comes out of this idea, but in either case it’s great to see once again people from Microsoft listening to the community.

? that just watch actual TV or view it on the internet. No need to spend $500 for something you can already do.
