A Hernando County school teacher was arrested on Monday for having sex with a 16-year-old student.

Cynthia Lynn Herr, 35, was charged with four counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor. She’s being held in the Hernando County Jail with bail set at $20,000. Herr is an exceptional student education teacher at John D. Floyd K-8 School of Environmental Science in Spring Hill.

Herr picked up the boy on Aug. 24, a Saturday, and drove him to a motel in Hernando County, where they had consensual sex four times in one day, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office said.

Herr told a colleague that she was having sex with a minor. The colleague informed school administrators, the sheriff’s office said.

Since Herr lives in Citrus County, the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office initiated the investigation.

Citrus investigators met with the teenager, who admitted that they were having a consensual relationship. He told investigators that they had sex in Hernando, the sheriff’s office said.

On Monday, Hernando detectives interviewed Herr, who admitted to picking up the boy in August, taking him to a motel and having sex with him four times throughout the day, the sheriff’s office said.

The Hernando County School Board was notified that Herr was arrested.
