Spike VGX 2013 Award Nominees Announced

The annual Spike Video Game Awards — rebranded this year as VGX — announced its 2013 nominees today, a list of video games led by titles like BioShock Infinite, Grand Theft Auto 5, The Last of Us and Tomb Raider.

Up for the Game of the Year award are BioShock Infinite, Grand Theft Auto 5, The Last of Us, Tomb Raider and Super Mario 3D World.

GTA 5 is strongly represented in the following additional categories: Studio of the Year, Best Action Adventure Game, Best Xbox Game, Best PlayStation Game, Best Voice Actor, Best Soundtrack and Best Song in a Game. BioShock Infinite is also represented in the following categories: Studio of the Year, Best Shooter, Best Xbox Game, Best Voice Actor, Best Voice Actress, Best Soundtrack and Best Song in a Game. Also garnering seven nominations is Naughty Dog and its PlayStation 3 exclusive, The Last of Us.

The Fullbright Company's Gone Home is represented thrice, for Studio of the Year, Best PC Game and Best Independent Game.

This year's Spike video game awards show will follow a different format from years past, featuring extended demos of next-generation games, one-on-one interviews and "a more intimate studio setting." However, the VGX show promises the standard world-premiere game trailers that make it a draw each December.

Additionally, rather than airing live on Spike TV, this year's show be livestreamed online. VGX will be streamed on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Twitch, iOS and Android devices, as well as on GameTrailers.com and the websites of Spike, Comedy Central, MTV, MTV2 and BET.

VGX will be livestreamed for three hours on Saturday, Dec. 7, beginning at 6 p.m. ET / 3 p.m. PT.

Once again, Nintendo is the only company with all exclusives in their GOTY category. TLOU should win PS3 GOTY although Ni No Kuni should have at least been nominated and the Xbox category is irrevelent because all the games are multiplat. Titanfall probably will win most anticipated with Destiny being second behind. Watch Dogs lost a lot of steam after GTA5 came out and Ubisoft delaying the release.

That's cause all the great multiplat games never touch their ? systems. Last of Us needs to take home at least one of those GOTYs.

Anyway, awards are of course subjective, but I guess people will whine anyway. I'm always more interested in the reveals.

You right, it was a timed exclusive, but you get the point (I think). How can you be the best [insert console] game when all the games in the category are on the other system, unless the other system's version is supremely lacking.

Is Gran Turismo 6 still a thing that's happening this year? Its not nominated for Best Driving Game or Best PlayStation Game.

Best RPG could go a couple different ways, but I think Fire Emblem will take it.

I would like Killer Instinct to win Best Fighting Game, but i'm sure Injustice will because it has so much content.

Game of the Year category is perfect. Those would be my 5 picks.

I watched a couple of hours of it. Talk about a complete disaster. You had to see it to believe it but somehow I doubt they will do this again next year.

10 minutes into the show it was very obvious that Joel McHale really didn't want to be there. It lead to a lot of unintentional comedy and some seriously awkward interviews. You see the look of disbelief & regret on that tool Geoff Keighley's face throughout the whole show and it was kinda worth watching just for that.

Xbox and PS are both the best. Wii doesn't compare in any way.
