Does every good/great movie deserve a sequel?

Do you think it's good or bad for the movie industry for studios to turn their movies into franchises?
Imagine if The Godfather, Star Wars, or Rocky never been made into series franchises. Would those original movies still be put on such a high pedestal? Would movies like Titanic or Scarface still be highly praised if they made sequels?
Or should sequels only be reserved for movie adaptions of books and comics like Hunger Games, Twilight, Batman, Spiderman, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Superman, The Lion The Witch & The Wardrobe, etc? Where does that leave movies like Fast & the Furious, James Cameron's Avatar (they just confirmed 2 or 3 more Avatar movies), and The Best Man?
And what are some good movies that shoulda coulda woulda got sequels? I would've liked to see what studios could have done with Mr. and Ms. Smith, Road To Perdition, Wanted, and The Wood.

But unlike a lot of businesses, if they don't make a product that people actually like, they're ? . So quality basically counts for everything.

No. Especially if it's a forced sequel, like one where the main character is dead and ? .
-
No but I dont mind them. I hate prequels even more

Prequels aren't bad as long as they don't overload on over the top references to the previous movie. -
No. Some things deserve their own place in time
I wouldn't any to see a follow up to A History of Violence. The story was told and life resumed . -
How would Titanic have a sequel?
I don't have a problem with sequels as long as the story is still good -

Not sure if those are the best examples since they were made with sequels in mind. Stories wouldn't be complete without more movies for them.
Generally don't mind sequels or franchises as long as it's a good movie. Just wish they'd leave certain things alone when a lot of time has gone by, or if there's really no reason for it to be made/a complete lack of effort to have a good story. Like a second Ghostbusters or Bad Boys or Starship Troopers. All terrible. And hearing about a Top Gun sequel after this long just makes me shake my head.

when a movie is made with intentions of there being more (like making a movie out of a book series) that doesn't bother me.
foh when they try to milk every last cent/ounce of quality out of a movie for sequels just because the first one did unexpectedly well. -
No. A great movie should be a complete body of work. Unless the original intent is to make a series of films that combine to make one vision that ? is kinda wack. Outside of a few comedies it usually doesnt work. Money is money tho so that ? aint stopping.

If it's not forced. If they have to work their way around how the first one ended then they shouldn't make a sequel. -
The Matrix is a good example.Should have left the travels and adventures of Neo and co. to the viewers imagination after the first one.
the sequels almost ruined it. -
Yeah Im gonna say prequels are ? unnecessary, unless the material is already there when the original was made, such as in the Hobbit or the Godfather.
-
No. Many great movies are better off left alone. Franchising is how the studios make money or create easy tax write offs though so it will never stop. They're remaking The Naked Gun with Ed Helms that says it all right there.

if they bring OJ back ill watch that ? though.

There's hardly ever been a perfect trilogy or sequel(s) in Hollywood history .. (The Godfather Part III, LOL. The Toy Story trilogy however was exceptional. I'll give them that)
That says a lot. Quality control in the process of filmmaking has been sidelined for the almighty dollar.
I'm more into world cinema these days or American independent cinema . .. -
How in a ? you have a sequel to Scarface?

They'll probably cast Aaron Hernandez as the new Nordberg.

Man I thought I was the only who thought the Hangover was some ? I never understood the hype behind that trash. -
Hangover is overrated as ? but anchorman is hilarious
