Is anyone a fan? Is anyone reading the current IDW books?

They're great. Jamie Roberts and Nick Roche are the current headwriters of the two books (Robots in Disguise and More than Meets the Eye) and hit it out the park with every issue. Deep characterization, huge moments, and a hugely spanning tapestry of stories are whats on the menu.

Dont' know ? about Transformers? Good news, neither did I!! The books are exciting enough to draw you in and if your an adequately genre savvy reader you can pick up on the importance of most events/characters.

But converting to Transformers is a bit of a task. Firstly A LOT of the characters kinda look alike. And there's a shitton of them so keeping track of who is who is a bit tricky.

Secondly, the current books are only like 3 years old but the IDW transformers verse started in 2005 AND the current titles reference alot of older material. If your not prepared to read tons of back issues you will spend a lot of time on the Transformers wiki. And some of the material even references aspects that are from the ENTIRE Transformers franchise (which is ? HUGE and dates back to the 80s).

Thirdly personally some of the tropes are bit harder to swallow. For example, the Transformers do have a power totem pole. Some bots are stronger than others. Exactly how is never really defined beyond "bots that are bigger/have more than two forms/can combine are more powerful" and thats a bit dissapointing coming from someone who is a DC fanboy (IMO old DC had the best defined power level setup of any comic book verse).

But nitpicks aside, the current books are well worth checking out.

theres some crazy ? going involving
Shockwave deciding its time to use the fractured post war chaos on Cyberton (Starscream has been declared the ruler of Cybertron to show how ? up ? is) to make some big moves.
The current event "Dark Cybertron" is the culmination of a few major plot points so something big will probably happen for Megs to be joining the Autobots
given that solicts say that Megatron will be taking over the Lost Light starship, things arent boding well for Rodimus Prime as thats the ship he's currently in charge of

The current IDW-verse is a reboot of G1. So alotta familiar elements are present. The biggest change IMO is that Earth isn't as big a deal in this iteration. The tone of the books really sell the idea of the war being this endless war of attrition that spans countless worlds. The period of the books that do take place on Earth feel like just another pit stop for the Transformer's war.

Though after the current event "Dark Cybertron", Earth will be featured again as a setting.
