After endless false starts and legal battles, the long-awaited Tupac Shakur biopic is finally being resurrected. According to Variety, the as-yet-untitled project will be written, directed and produced by Oscar-nominated filmmaker John Singleton (Boyz n the Hood, Four Brothers, 2 Fast 2 Furious).
Singleton is expected to start working on the screenplay immediately, with the goal to start production in the summer. The choice of director makes sense: Singleton was both a friend and collaborator of Shakur's, having directed the rapper/actor opposite Janet Jackson in the 1993 romantic drama Poetic Justice.
"Tupac was the guy who I planned to do a lifetime of films with," Singleton says. "His passing deeply affected my life as well as countless people in this world. His life story is as important to my generation."
The film – which will reportedly focus on the rapper's rise to fame and 1996 murder – has endured its fair share of complications: The project, once known as Tupac, was originally set to move forward in February 2011, but was delayed by a lengthy legal battle between Morgan Creek and Tupac's mother, Afeni Shakur, who fought for extensive creative control. After signing off on the project, she was sued by Morgan Creek for continuing to negotiate after the deal was completed. Afeni then followed with a countersuit, claiming there was no deal. Both sides eventually reached a settlement before the case went to trial in 2011.
It remains unclear who will portray Tupac in the film, though the announcement of Singleton's involvement is a major step forward.

this the only saving grace that biggie biopic was bad and pac would be an even harder personality to duplicate because he was corny but he made it work for him it would almost have to be an unknown and thats something hollywood shy aways from -
Inb4 they name Michael B Jordan as the lead.
-
sounds good I will be checking this out when it's ready.
-
rofl @ the casting of Tupac being damn near as crucial as the casting in religious movies
-
closest anybody got to pac was og loc from i think it was san andreas gta
-
Hopefully its better than the Biggie movie.

Allow me to be the first one to nosign this buffoonery.
So you just gonna skip over the other roles he played that was more credible than the Tupac role? Even him playin Papa Doc in 8 Mile was a better role.
You know what, I can't do this. KYS. Good day.
*storms outta thread* -
I didnr think the biggie movie was that bad

I like Notorious
if this ? changes hands one more time,it ain't happening
John would make the movie right, but didn't John let the studios force him to take pac out of his movies when his trouble started? -
Fitting.

but if the studios did make take pac out of his movies then he didn't have a choice. sometimes it's do as the studio says or leave the project that you created.

Good choice

Nas should play Tupac. And Doyouwant2go2heaven should play suge knight
-
I can see Jayden Smith playing Tupac tbh..

Going to be near impossible to cast the right actor...
What would you rather see; new actor or established actor?
Either way it's going to be an opportunity of a lifetime...
Biopics usually get Oscar consideration; wondering if they would snub it, even if it turned out fantastic... -
Thing with pac is he was like so many people rolled up in one. He could be the loudest turnt up then next day be the most quiet.(so it seemed to me atleast). This dude gota be naturally charasmatic to play pac. This could be the roll of a lifetime.
