Same Wolverine is in like 12 comics. These companies try to milk their most popular characters.

Batman (just Batman) is their highest selling comic, so they use the character in more comics to sell off that popularity.

    Batman and robin
    Batman: Dark Knight
    Batman: Detective
    Batman: Inc

and now i am pretty sure they have another Batman comic coming out soon.

As far as stories, only differences ive noticed are Batman Inc is the whole bat family, Batman and Robin have their own adventures, Detective and Dark Knight are pretty much just different Storylines.

Only ones i read are Batman, and Detective Comics. I want to start picking up Batman and Robin.

So far the only stories that really tie in together that ive noticed is Detective, Batman, and Batman and Robin, also Batman Inc.

The only ongoings right now are Batman, Batman & Robin, Batman: The Dark Knight, Detective Comics. The Dark Knight is about to be cancelled. A weekly Batman book titled Batman Eternal will start in a few weeks. The reason Batman has multiple books is the same reason Spider-Man had multiple books.

They are very popular characters with large fanbases. Those same fanbases are very diverse so they won't all be reading the same books. Like there are people that read Batman who never read Detective Comics and vice versa. So you have to cater to all the different subgroups in the fanbase.

Batman has been around long enough that he has some fans who like a darker book. While there are some who like a lighter book etc. This is why so many titles exist to cater to the different subsegment of fans in the fanbase.

    Traditionally it goes like this

Batman - The flagship book. The scope is more epic in tone like a blockbuster serial adventure and it lays a lot of the definitive groundwork for the canon. Stories like Year One, Hush and Under the Hood were originally printed here. It's more about the showmanship than it is something more introspective most of the time. Batman being a superhero.

Detective - More introspective and personal detective stories. Batman being a cop instead of a superhero basically.

Then you have the later books like

The Dark Knight - The more supernatural stories.

Batman & Robin - Originally the adventures of Batman and his son the last Robin; and now the pairing of Batman and his allies and sometimes even villains (like Two-Face) in the wake of his son being dead.
