Capcom shareholders open company up to takeover possibility
Today, Capcom announced that at its most recent investor meeting, its shareholders voted to end the company's takeover defense -- which means that Capcom could now be acquired if a company buys up large amounts of its stock.
Many companies have defenses against a stock purchase takeover, and there are various schemes and strategies they can adopt to block a party from gaining control of the company by buying up its stock.
Capcom originally put such countermeasures in place in 2008 following a shareholder vote. This latest development won't stop the company's management from attempting to "react to make necessary measures within the admissible limits of applicable laws and regulations," the company said in its statement.

FINISH HIM

Aw ? I didn't expect it to happen this soon. I'm sure Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft are all plotting on buying Capcom as I type this.
-
@Sion what u think
-
Man...2 of the 3 big companies are gonna suffer badly from this.
I would think that capcom would want to stay Japanese, but the American manufacturer might throw more money at them. So it could go either way. -
The end is near for capcom
-
This could be a good thing. The ? don't seem to know what to do with the Capcom games anymore.
-
MS gonna scoop that ? right up
-
That'll teach them to ? over the blue bomber

Won't be Sony cause they can't afford it. Would be MS or Nintendo. Realistically though it will probably be a mobile company or a media conglomerate like viacom and comcast or even disney. -
Amazon or some ?
-
actually yeah, if amazon is serious about their gaming division, I could see them trying for it. didnt they buy out the killer instinct team?
But likely it would be disney if its a non gaming company. they HAVE to know the value of the brand, especially since they have Marvel already. Disney might actually not be a terrible choice for gamers, since they wouldnt deny any single system. And it would likely increase the chances of a new mega man. -
Once that Lil Wayne and Drake tour happen they'll have plenty of money to blow
-
I'm blaming @Sion and @grouchygreg for this ? . Ya ain't ? at Capcom games and then have the nerve to do a hostile takeover?
? u ? .

Whoever buys them better revive Mega-Man.
-
Im the best Capcom Fighter player here
-
and the best 'falling asleep while playing anything else' player too
-
Man Nintendo better get up on this that ? MegaMan they about to lose
-
-
Would it be possible that the properties get sold piece by piece? Like Nintendo got Mega Man, Sony got RE, MS got Dead Rising, etc. Like what happened with Thq.
Mega Man, of course, should undoubtedly go to Nintendo. But honestly, I can't see Street Fighter thriving with them though. What was the last fighting game that Capcom got on Nintendo? Tetsonuko vs Capcom? it barely sold over half a million. MS or Sony are its only logical homes. Thats why I think it would be better for gamers in general that someone besides the big 3 buy them. Hell maybe even Warner Bros. We'd finally get that MK vs SF game lol
But I still say Disney scoops them up. At least their fighting game franchises. Marvel vs Capcom 4 for all next gen systems; we all win. -
A japanese company needs to buy them, somebody that lets them operate freely
-
they should atleast sell Mega man to Nintendo
-
Let's do it. I have several great ideas
-
No SF for PS or Xbox? Foh. That can't happen.
-
Yea games shouldn't be exclusive from Capcom
