Oregon Nanny Charged After Leaving 3-Year-Old And Newborn In Hot Minivan While She Tanned

A Portland, Oregon, nanny is facing multiple charges after police say she left a 3-year-old boy and a 2-month-old girl inside a minivan on a 90-degree day while she was working on her tan inside of a tanning salon, according to KOIN6.
Kristin Marie Jones, 23, pleaded not guilty Friday following a grand jury indictment charging her with two counts of first-degree criminal mistreatment, reckless endangerment, first-degree child neglect, and one count of driving on a suspended license.
According to police, an officer was dispatched to the parking lot in front of the Sunblaze Tanning salon at 2:40 in the afternoon to check on the welfare of two children left in a car.
Portland Officer Rian Hamby arrived to discover a toddler and baby in a Dodge Caravan minivan sweating and screaming. According to the officer, all of the windows of the minivan were rolled up.
The officer stated in his report that the boy was “soaked in sweat,” and that he could feel ” heat radiating from (the child) through his bullet proof vest.”
According to court documents, Hamby was removing the children from the sweltering van when Jones exited the salon and joined him.
Jones initially told the officer that she had the left the children with their mother in the minivan, but later admitted that she had left them unattended and had lied to the officer because she was scared.
According to a Department of Human Services worker the mother was at work all day.
At her hearing, Jones was ordered by Judge Karin Immergut to have no unsupervised contact with children and told she may not work as a nanny.
Her next hearing is scheduled for August 15.

They throwing the word "nanny" too lose ........ When I think of a nanny .... I think of an older woman wh has raised some kids of her own already ....... A 23 yr old is no nanny .... that' just a baby sitter .......
