A little nugget of Japanese intel, before you head off for the day. You probably have videogames to play, I expect. Videogames like Tecmo's long-in-the-tooth fighting game Dead or Alive 5, a free version of which will apparently release on Xbox One, according to an issue of Famitsu translated by Gematsu and passed on by Videogamer.

Update 23/10:

Tecmo and Team Ninja have confirmed it: a "Core Fighters" edition of the game will be available to download on 17th February in North America, with details for other regions to follow.

It includes four fighters - Ayane, Hayate, Kasumi and Ryu Hayabusa - and "almost" every game mode. There's also a $4.99 version, which features the same content plus four more fighters - Hitomi, Tina, Jann Lee and Bass.

"All users, regardless of platform, can transfer unlocked titles, costumes and Story Mode progress from the last-gen versions of DEAD OR ALIVE 5 Ultimate as well as compete with combatants from both the free and full retail version of DEAD OR ALIVE 5 Last Round," notes the release.

Original story continues:

This "basic free version" and the paid-for one (which is also coming to Xbox 360) will launch on 19th February in Japan. There's not much news about how they differ, but players of the free version can allegedly battle against paid-up fighters. It's also not clear whether this offer will migrate to other territories - and thus, qualify for OXM's free Xbox One games list.

Subtitled "Last Round", the next generation versions of Dead or Alive 5 come with two new stages - "Danger Zone" from the original Dead or Alive, and "Crimson" from Dead or Alive 2. There are additional characters, too - a complete newcomer and Nyotengu from the arcade version of Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate.

OXM handed DOA5 a 7/10 back in September 2012, describing it as "a safe sequel that sticks to a formula that still works". Let's hope the latter part is true of Last Round, too.
