Obama to Black Voters: 'Get that Cousin Pookie Out to Vote' Man, what? Lol

It's not that we don't "get it." It's really not much to get. But, faux outrage is faux outrage. You are the same person who couldn't identify flagrant, undisguised, glaringly unconcealed racism in the Nikko Jenkins ad. Why? Because Nikko Jenkins does not represent us all, so racism is now in the eye of the observer who accepts "Pookie" as some blanket representation of the average black disinterested voter. Isn't that what you said?"S2J wrote:
See this is just as toxic as any racism imo
Them crackas got your head so fuked up u willing to sell yourself out along with any moral compass you have, just to side with a murderer and criminal. You dont realize that harms us more than anything. Nikko fukin Jenkins does not represent black people, and i dont look at us as black people as all being like niko johnson, so i didnt flinch watchin that video. Nggas who aint sure about themselves? Or the 'good' white people who 'on our side' but still look at us as less than them? Yea they feelin a way
The ad is not racist
oh.
But somehow, you are just sooooooooo offended that a black man dare use a colloquial expression with origins in the black community to a largely black audience. Or was it even a black audience? Are you just saying that as a cheap way to prove a point because the last time I checked Northwestern University was a lily white school in Evanston, IL. Was the reference to "Pookie" in line with the tone and tenor of the rest of the speech? Was the entire speech patronizing and condescending or are you just saying that to fit the narrative? Post the rest of the speech. Was he shuckin and jiving the whole speech? Sounds like ? just bored, wanna be in ? -

Chris Rock needs to go vote

Our "Pookie's" likely can't vote because they've been criminalized by the system he represents or have no reasons to have any faith in it.
He wanna take a man that's been struggling and insult him into helping him? ? won't even address police terrorism. ? we look like believing in him? We don't get ? outta that. -
And, then: "You've got to get that Cousin Pookie sitting at home on the couch — he's watching football right now instead of being here at the rally — you've got to talk to him and let him know it is not that hard to exercise the franchise that previous generations fought so hard to obtain."
This guy write his speeches now?
Yoooo I hate them commercials. Special the one with the big ? black chick. All that neck twisting and loud speaking. ? got a degree in hair but got the nerve to talk down to me. Yes I get the irony of my comment in relation to this thread. But ? dat ? . -
oddly enough the only person i know nicknamed pookie is a white guy.

You ? mad enough to vote republican or naw?

But Im more distrubed by the Democratic Party's propensity for taking the blk vote for granted
Than the GOP isn't any better
With that said
IMHO blk folk aren't just sitting waiting to be told to "vote" or too lazy to do so, they are disillusioned with the political system ...and rightfully so
Blk employment has been twice that of whites for generations... The unemployment rate for young blk people is even more abysmal ...our neighborhoods have the worst public schools ...our men are being hunted and killed by law enforcement around the country ... I could go on and on ....
Things that can only be addressed on a national level
But no politician wants to talk about it seriously yet they expect us to vote ...we are to take the bread crumbs they give us and close our mouths
Sigh...
Anyways I digress, vote people ... Hopefully things will eventually get better lol
Lol I know how the government works
But did you know the fed contributes significantly to the rules for how school funding can be used ... Or that the fed also plays a large role in deciding school curriculum ...which currently sucks
Did you know there is no nationwide record of how many people die or are injured at the hands of police officers yet they keep track of the number of officers killed... Wouldn't it be better fed were to become more involved in the policing of police departments nationwide instead of waiting for another Ferguson
The fed could obviously play a larger role in job creation and setting the bar for minimum wage...
Why not legalize weed?
All these things and more can be addressed to help blks, the poor to move forward yet there is no political will to do it
Which brings me to my point really on a national and local level the two party system representative government thingy we have here is not working for anyone but the corporations and the wealthy. That becomes more and more clear each election cycle. And people ate losing faith in the process
Not saying people shouldn't vote... But we need sweeping changes to be to made to our political system for any real progress to be made imho

Bruh…. What a hyper sensational response with a pinch of truth to it ….
listen Obama is not on the Ballet.
The whole point is to get "BLACK PEOPLE" into the voting Booth. Get familiar with who is running in your state and local district… Get familiar with the Ballot initiatives for this years election …. Inform yourself… get involved … don't sit on the sidelines. -

co-? '-sign!
The bottom line is this
It doesn't matter that many of us can't name one ? ' member of our local city council
let alone the local School Board
as president Obama ain't doing ? for the black community! X( -

I dnt know where u gettin this Northwestern stuff from. This was in PG County, Maryland. (I live 3 min from there). One of the blackest counties on earth, while he was stumping for Anthony Brown, a fellow beige brotha running for office. I get what they doin, im suprised you'd even question that
Also, like i posted in the 2nd drop:"I need you to grab Cousin Pookie to vote; I need you to grab Ray Ray to vote," the Illinois senator declared at a mostly black rally in Kingstree, S.C., two days before the South Carolina primary.
Last March, in a sermon at Brown Chapel in Selma, Ala., on the 42nd anniversary of the historic voting rights marches there, Obama also invoked Pookie's name.
I mean got damn Ob, at a voting rights anniversary in Selma,Alabama?? So u just gon not read facts and instead do the 'ima ask a bunch of loaded queations' thing?
As far as your example, i believe thats what yall refer to as a 'straw man' argument. Thats just bad fam lls The 2 have nothing to do with 1 another. -
You ? can't be pleased for ? . It's a ? joke. All you ? think about what he doesn't do.
? black america...full of ? self hating crab ass ? . ? can't relate to anybody in this maphuka

They either above them, "flossing on their broke ass" or if the ? is above them in game, they hate...damn man you can't make this ? up
The next president is going to be terrible...wonder if ? have words then? Probably not...not as much as they do for Obama -

Man yall not that dumb...u comparin how Potus talks publicly, to 1) how an everyday regular mfer talks off record, and 2) to how people type to one another on a place that has a fuking 'powerful porn movement'.
AND its not lost on me Shuffington is white trying to slide in some 'yall say it to each other' logic. Foh -

What Im saying to you is that he has used the "Pookie" reference on MULTIPLE occasions (as politicians do tend to recycle material while stumping), most recently in Evanston, IL at Northwestern University which is a lily white institution. What that should say to you is that the reference has been used to speak to audiences, ABSENT OF RACE. What you should be clear on is where your outrage stems from. Is it because you feel that he is scolding his audiences comprised mainly of people of color (which you can youtube right now to see the same joke used with white audiences) or the fact that he would even evoke a colloquialism like "Pookie" in the first place, which you feel is racially charged. The latter I can somewhat understand but it begs the question of the context of the speech in its entirety. If the rest of the speech did not have a tone of condescension, why are we harping on a cultural reference that was clearly added for comic relief. The reference does not incite me, nor does the fact that it resonates with me as a black person cause me to feel like my intelligence is being insulted. Michael Eric Dyson has made reference to Pookie and a lot of other "hip" cultural phenomena in lectures at Columbia University. That is an IVY. LEAGUE. SCHOOL. I do not always agree with how Obama talks to black people, and I did not appreciate the things he said at the Morehouse graduation, but this article appears to be taking him to task specifically for that one comment, and not his overall tone. To me, that's silly.
And you know what... Fine. It simply struck me as odd how your views on the Nikko Jenkins ad were informed. It just seemed somewhat inconsistent to me, but maybe not...

Yes the feds tell us how we supposed to spend school money... but it's up to the state and local government to make sure that is done correctly... thus making it a state local issue. .. and the standards of learning is separated by state..
btw rather you know it or not in very high crime areas the feds are part of the crime/policing the community.. (im from one of those areas)..
the national minimum wage is a minimum all states must abide by... it's up to the states to go higher...
within the next 10 years more than half the states will legalize weed (if people get out during midterm elections and vote for it)...
if you feel we need sweeping changes that's fine but they can't change ? or see ? is an issue if shyts not voted for... -
@S2J I think they think you're really "outraged", and they are taking some of the things you may have typed in jest to heart, and rushing to the defense of the beloved Obama.
If i read this correctly, it's just shining light on a corny and irritating tendency of his and pointing out that he should chill wit all that. Am I right or do you have a stronger feeling about this? Lol Ob and her cosignees seem to be defending harder than necessary.

Yea u beat me to it. She thinks im 'outraged' llls... Ob is sensitive tho she thinks people think like her
Now, @ob i swear i dont debate unless i know im right lol follow me here:
If Michael eric Dyson uses Pookie u wouldt flinch. He has equity
If Tavis Smiley used Pookie u wouldnt flinch. Equity.
If Obama uses it it feels different. Thats not contradiction, thats context. Obama has made it clear, for almost 8 years now, he's not to be looked upon as the rep for black america. Cool. But with that you lose a certain amount of ...equity.
Obama is no Michael Eric Dyson. Nor should he be. When in times of black struggle he aint Dyson, or MHP, or Smiley. Ok, cool. Understood. So dont try ro relate to us as they might. Thats not his lane. (We didnt know that yet in 2008!). And him trying to get in that lane, ESPECIALLY after being nuetral in situations like Ferguson, makes it worse. Dont be the 'black' president, when you aint the 'black' president.
But yea I've kilt you like 4 times today im tired, I'm gon get some rest.
