BUFFALO, NY - Crime in the Queen City is the topic of conversation in many Buffalo living rooms and corner stores. Now that the homicide rate is above 60 for 2014, many want answers and a plan to stop the violence.

Murray Holman, executive director of the Stop The Violence Coalition says the problem is street gangs. One street with three blocks could have a gang for each block.

"We got to figure it out, these street gangs are more treacherous than the gang that's built up because you know who those people are," Holman said.

The most recent crime happened a few blocks from the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.

"We're living In a state of hopelessness as a community and if people had jobs for one, and if parents were more like parents and were responsible for their kids a lot of these things could be curtailed, perhaps not stopped, but certainly slowed down," said Alonzo Madison of Buffalo.

As crime happens in an area that is booming with development, Madison says there's a reason for concern. He thinks Buffalo's identity could be tarnished.

"It could affect the amount of money being put into and development happening. If I were in business developing land and areas I would be reluctant to put money into it if all of this chaos was going on. If the people don't care, if the people have simply given up, what do you have to work for, what do you have to hope for," Madison said
