Vine Vaughn annoys the ish out of me in his more "comedic" roles, but I actually enjoyed his role on True Detective. ? was asked to live on his knees and he chose to die standing and in what he truly believed, real ? ish.

Maybe I just dig him playing characters with a more serious tone.

Given the info I've obtained in this thread and the greatness of the last 3 episodes...

I'd say this was just as good if not better than the first season.

And Vince Vaughn was a ? G...didn't truly get his character until he murked the Russian. He need someone serious therapy. He was really about that life, be really didn't want be...remind me of Ghost from Power.

Watch it back to back like it was Netflix...I bet it will be appreciated more.

I liked Vince Vaughn's character this season. I think this series should be wrapped up. We already have enough cop shows on network television. HBO should be doing innovative ? .

Innovative how? What plot(s) ain't been done before?

So after Farrel easily snuffs two bad guys he just gives up? Dumb.

Frank getting jammed up like that. Come on. How ? dumb.

And somehow the Mexicans were the masterminds behind all of it!?!? Come oooonnnn

The Mexicans weren't the masterminds. Or that's not what I got from it. Frank ? them over when he burned the clubs down. That was just Frank's life and the cost of doing business. He could ? every and anyone, but there would always be someone looking for him, and he would always have a foot in that life. No matter where Frank went, he would always bring his past with him.

Unless I'm missing something and somebody can explain it.

No that's what I got from it too.

The story isn't that complicated, there was just too many parts to it that made it hard to follow. You cut down on the amount of characters involved in the overall plot and it would've been smoother imo.

Anyway, I liked this season more than the first. mainly for the actors I think. Plus I don't get the hype for season 1 like everyone else does.

I meant the old two-car trick, ? was dumb as hell, and it took frank that long to get his leg piece. What a ? !

The Mexicans had a deal with Frank to sell drugs from the clubs. That was never happening but Frank didn't know he was being ? out of the land deal by the Russians.

Anyway, someone explain how the story for season 1 was better than this.

What made season 1 great was Matthew McConaughey and Woody. However Colin Farrell character was just as interesting if not more complex.

I was happy his son was his and he ended up with two sons, the baby he never even knew about.

Franks red head chick was and underrated character and helped the audience build a relationship with Frank who is essentially the bad guy trying to better himself.

I stand by this being better but I understand the hate this season got. Aspects could have been done better.

lmao in what way was this season better than season 1? literally everything was done better & in a more interesting way.

    season 1:
    fleshed out characters/actors? check
    pacing & directing? check
    writing/dialogue? check
    violence/shootouts? double check
case you cared about where it went? check

season 1 ? all over season 2. every detail in season 1 meant something cuz it tied back to the case somehow...it was so much pointless ? in season 2. paul was secretly ? & nothing came of it...his mom stole his money and he didn't even smack her up.. frank & his wife were tryna have a kid nothing came of it...ani was looking for some ? for half the season that didn't want her help anyway...her dad ran some typa cult & her sister was doing porn...what happened with that? ray found out the guy he killed that he thought ? his wife really wasn't the guy...he sees the real guy in prison & nothing happens....lol ? season 2.

in season 1 the material was just meatier. it had the religious aspect on top of young girls getting hurt/killed. you don't have to force people to give a ? about that. plus the louisiana swamp made it creepy..there was always the threat of something unknown lurking in the shadows. season 2 never felt like that. underground sex clubs in LA??? oooh ive never heard of this how mysterious!!! foh.

Lol...I ain't tryna ? with you on this one Gabi!

Would you watch this season again back to back and see if you feel different?

Take into consideration the seven deadly sins theory, which also adds the religious aspect.

Wasn't great but it wasn't terrible either, the anthology aspect will still work going forward but they need to take it back to basics.

The main problems with this season was too much irrelevant ? going on before the story started to solidify itself, Taylor kitschs entire character and arc was pointless.....literally added nothing to the show.

It was also predictable (imo) 2 or 3 episodes in it was clear to me the story would eventually focus on Farrells and mcadams character at some point with the latter riding off the sunset (which is pretty much what happened.

Farrells death scene was stupid as well.dude was tech savvy enough to try to upload files from his phone whilst being tailed but couldn't jump onto uber or some ? when they put the tracker on his car?

    Nah.

The scenes between him and vaughn were probably the best part of this season.

This isnt really that different from the first series, they left a ton of unanswered questions in that as well.

tbh how can the same writer make a GOAT season 1 then make a WOAT season 2.

Its ? amazing how ? season 2 was compared to season 1. Its like dude was overwhelmed by the initial success. And tried way too hard with season 2.

? was overly complex imo. I pretty much checked out mentally by ep 5. By the last ep, I was jus waiting for it to end. I kno behind closed doors HBO cant be pleased with the end result.

'TRUE DETECTIVE' MAY NEVER GET A THIRD SEASON'

The fate of HBO favorite True Detective is in limbo, according to a new piece from The Hollywood Reporter.

A profile with new programming director Casey Bloys says that the anticipated third season falls in his hands, but "HBO sources suggest a new project from creator Nic Pizzolatto is more likely." The first season, starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, was critically acclaimed, but last year's follow-up starring Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell fell flat.

Pizzolatto, the creator of True Detective, has said in the past that he "can't imagine" doing the show for more than three years. He told reporters at the 2014 Banff World Media Festival:

"It can't have any growing pains like a regular first season. If it works it has to work right out of the box. That's incredibly exhausting. I mean, the job is exhausting to begin with, but it's doubly exhausting and I'm writing every episode. I can't imagine I would do this more than three years. I mean, I'd like to have a regular TV show. We'll have some fixed sets, regular actors and I could bring in people to help and I don' t have to be there every second. It'd be great."

Last Fall, HBO signed an exclusive overall deal with Nic Pizzolatto through 2018, so even if there's no more True Detective, we'll still have him.
