The release date of No Man’s Sky may be delayed due to Sony’s Project Morpheus.

According to Movie Pilot, the upcoming space exploration game No Man’s Sky would be the perfect launch title for Sony’s virtual reality headset. But the VR Gadgets could have a difficult time in 2016 when they become available.

Sony’s virtual-reality (VR) headset for PlayStation 4 named as Project Morpheus will be available at the UK’s upcoming gaming event, EGX (formerly known as Eurogamer Expo). The news is officially confirmed by Sony Computer Entertainment. Project Morpheus, Oculus Rift, Hololens and HTC Vive are all competing for the ultimate virtual reality experience. Microsoft has showed off “Minecraft” with Hololens but Sony has not demonstrated its VR headset with any game yet.

“Therefore, the likes of Sony [is] going to need something to grab our attention with, and what better way would there be to sell Project Morpheus than have ‘No Man’s Sky’ as your launch title?” the website wrote.

There’s a less chance of No Man’s Sky being delayed because of its support with Project Morpheus because if the game is going to be available only for VR gaming through Sony, this could decrease the popularity of both No Man’s Sky and the Headset.

However, if the game would be made the launch title for Project Morpheus, then No Man’s Sky release date could be delayed until next year. But it is possible that Hello Games release No Man’s Sky this year for PS4 and PC before releasing it for virtual reality.

Last year, in reply to No Man’s Sky release date, Sean Murray stated that;

‘The game is not an easy project to rush. The high anticipation surrounding it meant that its every aspect had to be firmly established. We are this super-small team, and we are making this ridiculously ambitious game, and all we are going to do in telling people when it is going to come out, probably, is disappoint them.’

That was all regarding No Man’s Sky. Let us know what you think about this news in the comments below!

    This is a good idea to me. NMS seems tailor made for the Morpheus, so this move should be mutually beneficial. It might help sell Morpheus units and it might also sell copies of the game. NMS looks interesting to me, but at times I wonder how fun it will actually be because there doesn't seem to be that much going on in gameplay. However, you put it in VR and it changes things because all of those little mundane things that the game is filled with suddenly become much more interesting.

    The ambitious space game No Man’s Sky has been delayed, two sources tell Kotaku. We don’t know exactly what the new release date is—and it may not be finalized yet—but we’re hearing it’s been bumped until at least July or August.

    Developed by a small UK-based team called Hello Games, No Man’s Sky has been much hyped since it was revealed back in 2013, seeing extensive coverage everywhere from the Stephen Colbert show to The New Yorker. Last October, the developers announced that it’d be out in June of 2016, but that appears to have changed.

    A reliable Kotaku source was the first to inform us of the delay. A second source, who works at GameStop, said they received marketing materials today for No Man’s Sky with the original June 21 release date. However, stores were informed that the release date is no longer correct and that they should cover it up with a “Coming Soon” label.
