Salute to one of the Best to ever do it...

Kobe Bryant, who helped the Lakers win five championships over a 20-year career spent entirely in Los Angeles, announced Sunday on the Players' Tribune website that he will retire after this season, saying "this season is all I have left to give."

In a piece titled "Dear Basketball," the 37-year-old Bryant wrote that the sport of basketball "gave a six-year-old boy his Laker dream and I'll always love you for it."

"But I can't love you obsessively for much longer," Bryant wrote. "This season is all I have left to give. My heart can take the pounding. My mind can handle the grind but my body knows it's time to say goodbye.[/q....uote]

Sad day for sports. My favorite player of all time, he gave it a try and realized he's no longer the Black Mamba. When scrubs aren't biting on your pump fakes, you gotta ride into the sunset. Second greatest shooting guard. Period.

Wow!! 20 years is a long time. Congrats to Kobe for surviving all those adversities, obtaining all those accolades, and will forever be mentioned in the discussion of "Best NBA Player". May the future HOF votes be plentiful, his days of watching his daughters grow be joyous, and the Black Mamba live forever

So many times Kobe destroyed my young selfs hope (suns fan, lol).

I still remember tearing up after game 4 in the first round 05 playoffs when Kobe hit a lay up to send the game to overtime, and then hit the fadeaway two from the elbow as time expired to put the lakers up 3-1 in the series....

Suns came back and won the series but ? was heartbreaking that day!
