For it, or against it?

Keep in mind, this poll is for criminals we know 100% are guilty of their crimes. If there is any doubt, death penalty is not possible.

    For it

Not quite sure if the victim's family should make the decision .... Way too many emotions involved

This one is pretty black and white for me. Death penalty should be abolished. There are no situations in which state-sanctioned murder is cool, in my opinion.

using the caveat that we know the persons guilt 100% skews things... also it depends on the crime.
I think it should be off the table for most situations.

Is there precedence where the death penalty was used in a non-murder/death case?

I mean the circumstances around the crime(murder/death).

Only reason Im kinda against the death penalty is because its the easy way out compared to life in prison.

Thought we were assuming 100% guilt...I'm not for killing innocent people either

    I'm against it.
    • It really doesn't serve as a deterrent against serious crimes.
    • It's expensive as ? .
    • Historically, African-Americans and other minorities have been given the death penalty under erroneous causes. There's several cases where proper DNA testing or an independent 3rd party looks in a case and it's found out the person was innocent.
    • The companies that used to provide the serum used currently for injections is getting out of business, since it's not finacially prudent to have a product that only has one consumer and only gets used once.

Honestly, I'll be surprised if the US still has the death penalty 20 years from now.

I don't think the death penalty was designed to be a deterrent. Murder deserves punishment, not a teaching moment.

There are lessor offenses of murder for those 'spare his life' cases...

But if a ? get convicted of Murder1, I say FRY EM!!

Thing is, I'm not against revenge killings. If that's how the family of a victim chooses to grieve so be it. But i don't believe a government should have the right to ? its own people.

Man them kid Bibles messed people up. Too many be out here quoting overgeneralized ? from the Bible. Like how the hell ? gonna command the Israelites not to ? in one book and then help them slaughter enemy after enemy in the rest of the Old Testament.

I'm for the death penalty, but only for cases where the guilt of the person is indisputable like with some of these serial killers or mass murderers who admit their guilt or get caught in the act.

    It's cruel

It's not a deterrent so I really don't see the point beyond enacting vengeance

However the impulse for revenge is not a sufficient justification for the death penalty, with all its accompanying problems and risks

I would also like to add that most if not all people have a capacity to change...why rob someone of that opportunity for our own selfish reasons

Two wrongs don't make a right, meaning it does nothing to move soceity forward in a positive direction

There is a difference in context you cannot just go by dictionary definitions outside of context. If people followed context they would be a lot less confused
