avp was as close to the comic as they could have gotten at the time.
they incorporated more of the mythos than Predators did.
The first one was great to me but Requiem was trash but I loved the designs of the AVP Preds. It was a nice set up just a small number of Predators against Aliens and their Queen.
With this new movie I think it be cool to see a young Predator grow and show how he improves going to different planets until his final test on the last planet. Could be nice with different designs and environments. -

There was a scene in avp where I literally thought the predator and Sanaa Latham were gonna make out. Smh.

Yea that scene was weird AF ..I'm like wait a min wtf is going on ..then the queen popped up -
AvP was an abomination. To this day I only have seen one scene out of that whole movie and it was enough to make the Alien and Predator fan within me die a lil bit.

I liked the rodriguez predator. I cant really recall the original predator w/ Arnold though. Need to rewatch. Never watched predator 2 with Danny Glover lol.

You need to watch both back to back ASAP.
Here's some interesting and funny trivia for you when you do: Gary Busey's character in Predator 2 was originally going to be Arnold's character from Predator. -

but would the predator be as popular if that was as widely known?
Definitely not IMO. I think it's better how they say enough to show you new ? but still leave enough space for writers to interpret it their own ways. That's why Predator has been able to survive as a movie franchise.
That's what lead to the existence of Predator 2 and Predators in the first place. Flexibility. Being able to do something new without ? on what the previous movie established but with better pacing. Not overstuffing it with details.
Not letting exposition be the drive of the entire project like many genre movies do today. That way the mystique isn't blown and the mythos evolve more naturally. -
