PS3 closes in on 360's global sales

The PlayStation 3 is bridging the gap with Xbox 360 global sales, it's been revealed, as Sony's latest financial results confirm it's shipped just 3.6 million less consoles than Microsoft.
Sony confirmed this morning that to date, it's shipped 38.1 million PlayStation 3 consoles worldwide. Microsoft announced last week that its managed to ship 41.7 Xbox 360s worldwide.
The numbers are a huge contrast to last year, when Microsoft posted worldwide sales of "over 30 million" for Xbox 360 in May - over 7.3 million clear of Sony's 22.7 million shipped PS3s confirmed in March, 2009.
The narrowing gap between the two consoles could be put down to many factors, including Microsoft approaching the peak of its audience before Kinect reaches out to the mass market, and of course Sony's PS3 price cuts late last year.
Whatever the reason, the more meaningful battle is bound to take place when the platform holders' respective motion controls launch later this year.

Despite the year lead start,a cheaper price,promoting multiplat games,getting GTA4 same day,getting FF13 and having Live the PS3 has been selling better than the 360 since it launched and will soon pass it (GT5).

Sales are always gonna be a lopsided comparrison due to the fact that 75% of 360 owners have purchased a second or third console due to that little red guy stopping in for a visit.

Unless you have shares in Sony or Microsoft it shouldnt really matter. I own both and are still surprised that people care about sales.

Anyway, Sony should be embarrassed. How did they lose so much market share compared to the PS1 and PS2? They sold over 100 million of each one? Now they celebrate just to be within 3 million of second place 4 years later and posting a profit for the first time ever?
Microsoft and Nintendo completely demolished Sony's hardware AND software market share and have been posting profits for YEARS. LOL! -

Some people seem to find these things important. Me? As long as i get 1-2 good games every month, I'm good. I could give a ? about these numbers. I ain't got stock in the companies or get any commission when they make a sale. -

Sony is still off & i dont think theyll ever catch 360, especially after they release that kinect and halo reach.
i own all 3 and imo 360 is by far the superior system of the 3. better games, better multiplayer platform, better online capabilities = better system. PS3 is aight but wats the point wen u can get the same games on 360 with better online modes too. i use my ps3 mostly for dvds/blueray and to play my old ps & ps2 games (first model ps3 backwards capatibility for the win CHHEEAAAHH).
Last i check both games had the same online modes -
