Starring Matt Damon and directed by Zhang Yimou (Hero, House of Flying Daggers), Legendary’s The Great Wall tells the story of an elite force making a valiant stand for humanity on the world’s most iconic structure. The first English-language production for Yimou is the largest film ever shot entirely in China. The Great Wall also stars Jing Tian, Pedro Pascal, Willem Dafoe and Andy Lau.

I know but like.........why?? I know the answer is obviously money but it would just never cross my mind to have a white person as the star in a movie about the great Wall of China lmao. If there's any martial arts element in this at all, the movie woulda sold off that alone. -
White man the hero in every movie, they can never do wrong.
White man a natural ? -
Only in America
-
-
What were they tryna keep out

that was a damn good movie tho..
thats in my top 10 for sure.. -
Just read about this yesterday some chick, Constance Wu, made a good point.
"If white actors are forgiven for their box office failures once in awhile then why aren't POC afforded one"
Matt Damon shouldn't be the lead but I'm not surprised. One of the writers for this also directed the Last Samurai.
The should get Don Cheadle to play The Last Viking. -
Get Justin Bieber to play The Last Woman.
-
Propaganda film to shown Europeans as hero's whwnnin history they are vast majority villains. What some sick ?
-
My bad, forgot about the white washing. I'm taking my GOAT back.

the Last Samurai was a inspired by a true story and Ken Watanabe was the Last Samurai not Tom Cruise.
Constatance Wu has no basis for her arguement because most Chinese epics have starred an all Chinese or East asian cast and have been successful.
She a psuedo revolutionary. -
Not feeling the great white hero angle. Silver lining about these movies, the majority of the rest of the cast isn't white so at least they're getting work.
-
so the bad guys are weird dragons..
double pass -

He was not. Ken Watanabe was. -
Chinese make weird fictional stories with foreigners all the time, mostly hit or miss....saw this film with John Cusack as a roman general and Jackie Chan as a Silk road guardian (lol) which had some great action and scenery but ofcourse didnt make any historical sense...than there was this other film with Nicolas Cage as a knight that was straight trash...
Chinese are the Arabs money wise, matt damon probably getting paid 5 times the amount he got for the martian...
