Step Brothers and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby co-stars Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly will play Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson in the forthcoming comedy Holmes & Watson from filmmaker Etan Cohen, writer of Idiocracy and Get Hard.
Deadline reports that the original plan was for Ferrell to appear in the film opposite his onscreen rival from Talladega Nights, Sacha Baron Cohen, but that version of the movie fell apart and opened the door for Ferrell and Reilly to collaborate again. The pair have apparently been looking for another opportunity since Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.
They also have a film called Border Guards in development, in which the pair will reteam with Step Brothers director Adam McKay. They will play a pair of rednecks who join the border guard to chase away immigrants and, presumably, hilarity ensues.
The report indicates that Holmes & Watson will feel like the pair's previous collaborations -- a PG-13 comedy with a lot of broad, raunchy humor. It seems likely that the movie will play up Holmes's ego, something that is being played straight in both Sherlock on BBC and CBS's Elementary. Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law are also expected to return soon for a third Sherlock Holmes film from director Guy Ritchie.
Cohen, who also wrote Tropic Thunder, recently had his directorial debut with Get Hard. He's currently working on Mandrake the Magician, an adaptation of the long-running comic strip starring Sacha Baron Cohen.

haha i remember him from the perfect storm. Then out of no where he does Walk Hard with Judd Apatow. That was such a hilarious ? movie.
Not a huge Slapstick comedy fan, but Farrell, Carrey, and Reiley are hilarious. Galifinakis if you consider him slapstick is pretty decent too. -
