The cop son of police union head Patrick Lynch has been stripped of his gun and shield for not reporting a friend of his, also a cop, accidentally fired his weapon while they sat in a car in Queens, police sources said.

Officers Kevin Lynch, 23, the son of the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association president, and Robert Smilove, 22, were sitting in Smilove’s mom’s car, down the block from Smilove’s Whitestone home just before 11 p.m. Sunday, sources said.

Smilove, who joined the force in January, had recently bought a five-shot .38-caliber revolver, and was showing it to Lynch, sources said.

The gun, which sources said Smilove hadn't told the department he purchased, was inadvertently fired, launching a bullet through the car window.

Both men ran off, and when police responded to a call of shots fired, they found the car and ran the plates, sources said. That led them to the home of Smilove’s mom, where he also lives. Smilove handed over the gun, which had four live rounds and one casing inside, sources said. It’s not clear how police learned Lynch was present.

Both officers are assigned to the 113th Precinct in Jamaica.

The NYPD suspended Smilove for not reporting the incident, sources said.

Lynch, who joined the NYPD in July 2014, was placed on modified duty for not reporting the incident, sources said. He likely won’t get fired, but Smilove could face dismissal, in part because he’s a rookie on probation, a high-ranking police source said.

The PBA did not respond to requests for comment.
