Authorities indicted a former upstate judge for allegedly using his position to reduce a fine in exchange for a sexual favor, the state’s top law enforcement official announced Tuesday.

Delmar House, the former Village Justice for the Village of West Carthage Court in Jefferson County, decreased a defendant’s traffic fine for a sexual favor in April 2015, according to New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.

He was charged with one felony count of bribe receiving and another for receiving a reward for official misconduct.

The former justice faces up to seven years in prison if convicted of the most serious offense.
On Tuesday, he pleaded not guilty during his arraignment in Jefferson County Court. He was released and is expected back in court on Jan. 17.

“Any court official who exploits their position to elicit sexual favors shows blatant disregard for the well-being of their victim, the trust of the public, and for the judicial system as a whole,” Schneiderman said. “We will keep working to root out public corruption and hold those responsible accountable.”
