Sessions: Justice to Limit Action Against Police Depts. on Civil Rights

Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Tuesday his Justice Department will “pull back” from suing police department for violating minorities’ civil rights, according to an NBC report.
"We need, so far as we can, to help police departments get better, not diminish their effectiveness. And I'm afraid we've done some of that," Sessions said during a meeting with attorneys general from across the country.
"So we're going to try to pull back on this,” he continued.
Sessions said the decision is not "wrong or insensitive to civil rights or human rights." Instead, he said, the federal government must help police combat violent crime in poor and minority communities.
While crime rates are half what they were in recent decades, Sessions said recent increases in violent crime are “the beginning of a trend” rather than a “one-time blip."
The attorney general indicated that he would encourage federal prosecutors to ? down on crimes committed with guns.
"We need to return to the ideas that got us here, the ideas that reduce crime and stay on it. Maybe we got a bit overconfident when we've seen the crime rate decline so steadily for so long," Sessions said.
The Justice Department under the Obama administration opened more than two-dozen investigations into police departments, resolving civil rights lawsuits with police departments including in Ferguson, Mo.; Baltimore; New Orleans, Cleveland and 15 other cities.
Sessions's comments mark a change in policy under the Trump administration.
The decision is expected to raise criticism from those opposed to Sessions’s nomination. The attorney general’s nomination to a federal judgeship was derailed in 1986 by accusations of racism.

Crime is a widespread problem in this country as well as police brutality. If crime is such a big issue then how are cops making a change or doing their jobs? Those two contradict themselves. Poor areas have more crime because the people are poor, genius. How about actually bringing opportunities to those communities both minority and white? The trailer park is as bad as the hood.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is disputing Justice Department reports about police misconduct in Chicago and Ferguson, Mo., according to an ABC News report.
Sessions said the findings in the report were "pretty anecdotal and not so scientifically based,” though he also said that he had read summaries rather than the full documents.
"You have 800,000 police in America. Imagine a city of 800,000 people," Sessions said. "There's going to be some crime in it, some people are going to make errors."
The Chicago report found “systematic deficiencies” in policing, in addition to "racially discriminatory conduct.” The investigation included interviews with current and former officers and more than 60 ride-alongs with police officers in each district.
“The department … heard from over 1,000 community members and more than 90 community organizations; reviewed thousands of pages of police documents, including all relevant policies, procedures, training and materials; and analyzed a randomized, representative sample of force reports and the investigative files for incidents that occurred between January 2011 and April 2016, including over 170 officer-involved shooting investigations and documents related to over 400 additional force incidents,” the Justice Department said in a press release when it originally released the report.
The report on Ferguson, where mass protests in 2014 followed the deadly shooting of unarmed Michael Brown, discovered racial prejudice and the use of excessive force by police.
The Ferguson report culminated in the city agreeing to a consent decree that established new rules around policing. Chicago is currently negotiating its own agreement with the Justice Department.
Prior to his confirmation as head of the Justice Department, Sessions received the backing of multiple police groups, including the Fraternal Order of Police and the National Association of Police Organizations.
Sessions's 1986 nomination to a federal judgeship was derailed by accusations of racism, which reappeared during his fight to win confirmation as attorney general. -

There will be many black neighborhoods that aren't the hood, but will be categorized as such. -

The blue lives matter Bill was birthed under Obama right? The first state to implement the bill was a democratic governor of Louisiana yes? Police exercised extreme prejudice to black people across the country with impunity under a democratic administration. And when this democratic presidents own friend was a victim of police injustice, they went to have beer with the cop.

Problem with this is white people are the ones making the decisions, and you know who they think.
There will be many black neighborhoods that aren't the hood, but will be categorized as such.
Larger problem here is there are plenty of White neighborhoods with just as much crime that should be targeted. It's as if gun violence is the only crime whites care about. So, while Whites,continue to dominate the drug trade and drug use, swindle people out of millions, lead the nation in ? , serial killing and terrorism we will just focus on Blacks with guns and petty drug charges.
