I just wanted to say thanks for providing me an entire weekend of entertainment, and I didn't even pay for it.

Fyre Festival Hit With $100 Million Lawsuit

"Closer to The Hunger Games than Coachella,” the suit states

Fyre Festival founders Ja Rule and Billy McFarland are the subjects of a $100 million lawsuit filed Sunday in California by celebrity lawyer Mark Geragos, Variety reports. Geragos is seeking class-action status for the suit, which anticipates “more than 150 plaintiffs.” The suit was filed on behalf of plaintiff Daniel Jung, who is seeking “$5 million in damages for alleged fraud, breach of contract, breach of covenant of good faith, and negligent misrepresentation,” according to Variety. Scheduled to take place in the Bahamas this past weekend, the luxury festival devolved into chaos and was soon postponed. The Bahama Ministry of Tourism issued a statement, Ja Rule apologized, and McFarland explained what went wrong, promising a make-up festival next year. The suit claims that the “festival’s lack of adequate food, water, shelter, and medical care created a dangerous and panicked situation among attendees,” who found themselves “stranded on a remote island without basic provisions.” It states that the situation “was closer to The Hunger Games or Lord of the Flies than Coachella.”

On Sunday, Ja Rule took to Twitter to issue an update on the situation. “Relieved to share that all guest are safe, and have been sent the form to apply for a refund,” he wrote. The Fyre Festival Twitter account added, “We’re heartbroken that we let down all the guests who put their faith in us. To our guests and staff—thank you again for your all patience as we navigate our next steps. We owe you an apology.”

The gourmet food vendor that they initially booked pulled out 2 weeks before the event because they saw the ? show it was becoming. So they just gave them cheese sandwiches

    they need to be outted

it's not up to them to make that type decision if they getting paid.

    sounds like breach of contract

Fyre Festival leak reveals “preposterous” social media advertising scheme
BY CHAL RAVENS, MAY 2 2017

    FyreFestivalYouTube-616x356.jpg

Celebrities were lavished with free flights and tickets in exchange for social media posts.

Ja Rule’s Fyre Festival descended into chaos before it had even begun last week, with ticketholders left stranded on a private Caribbean island after a storm wrecked the site’s infrastructure. But in the days since, grim accounts from attendees and former employees have suggested that the luxury festival was doomed from the start.

Now a leaked business plan has revealed the extent of the organizers’ incompetence in “one of the most preposterous invitations for outside capital that I have ever seen,” according to Vanity Fair reporter Nick Bilton.

Fyre Festival had been advertised on social media as an ultra-glamorous getaway, promoted by supermodels including Kendall Jenner, Emily Ratajkowski and Bella Hadid in posts that promised a beach paradise setting. Tickets to the event ranged from $4000 to $12,000.

But the festival’s pitch deck reveals that their social media posts broke advertising standards by failing to disclose they were part of a marketing campaign. As Bilton points out, the Federal Trade Commission has rules requiring that social media “influencers” who share promotional materials “clearly and conspicuously disclose their relationships to brands”.

Fyre Festival employees are referred to in the 43-page pitch deck as “The Fyre Squad”, while the social media celebs are the “Fyre Starters”. So far, so ? . The Fyre Starters were offered free flights, accommodations, and tickets to the event in exchange for social media posts – and some of them were even paid for the promotions. But almost all of the 400 influencers who shared the festival’s promotional videos and photos never disclosed that they were actually advertising a product.

A few hours after the actual festival began, some of the smarter Fyre Starters began deleting their promotional posts. Those who didn’t were inundated with messages from angry fans. So far, only Hadid has issued an apology.

A $100 million class-action lawsuit was filed yesterday against the organizers of the festival, claiming that the conditions were “closer to The Hunger Games or Lord of the Flies than Coachella.”

Festival boss Billy McFarland admitted on Saturday he’d been “a little naive,” but added that he plans to hold a make-up festival in the U.S. next year.

Fyre Festival threatens to sue people who complained about ? conditions
BY APRIL CLARE WELSH, MAY 2 2017

    Screen-Shot-2017-04-28-at-10.00.21-607x440-2.png

Just when you thought things couldn’t get any more ridiculous.

News emerged today that Fyre Festival’s organizers are facing a $100 million lawsuit, but more interesting are reports that the festival in fact threatened its own legal action – against those who endured the event’s terrible conditions and had the nerve to live-tweet their experience.

Last weekend’s event was intended to be a luxurious getaway, but shortly after arriving the event descended into chaos with the whole debacle unfolding on Twitter, Reddit and other social media.

TMZ alleged today that the event’s lawyers have now sent at least one cease and desist letter, claiming that widespread reports on the eve of the festival that the festival site bore a resemblance to “refugee camp conditions” were untrue and could “incite violence, rioting, or civil unrest.”

Fyre Media, the company behind the festival, have yet to comment on this latest allegation, nor a leaked business plan which emerged online today, revealing the “preposterous” social media advertising scheme that broke advertising standards by failing to disclose its social posts were part of a marketing campaign. It’s also now reported that the event has been banned by the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism from returning to put on their “rescheduled” event.
