KING 5 in Seattle brings word that Brandon Roy was shot in California over the weekend. Roy, a former All-Star with the Portland Trail Blazers whose career was cut short due to knee issues, has reportedly already returned to Washington.

According to KING 5, Roy was spending some time in the Los Angeles-area when he became an “innocent bystander in what may be a gang related shooting.” The outlet also reported that they tried getting in touch with Roy but was unable to do so.

Roy played with the Blazers from 2006-11, averaging 19 points, 4.7 assists, and 4.3 rebounds per game. His tenure with the team ended due to degenerative knees, which forced him into retirement. He attempted to come back with the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2012-13, but only played five games before ending his career for good.

Since then, Roy has moved into coaching. He is currently in charge of Nathan Hale High School in Seattle, where he earned the title of Naismith National High School Coach of the Year last season on the heels of a 29-0 regular season record. It was his first year in charge of the program.

We’ll bring you more info as this story develops. For now, hopefully Roy is able to fully recover from any injuries he may have sustained.
