I see alot of these guys Wale, drake, Big Sean, Kendrick Lamar etc all being compared but J. Cole hasn't been placed next to anyone since he dropped 2014.
Is he quietly becoming the crown jewel of this new generation?

No. He's just not in the news cycle right now.

Terrible comparison.
You don't watch DBS -
J.Cole is overrated I'm my book, how is he incomparable when he hasn't dropped any classic albums like GKMC or TPAB ?? Even on a critically acclaimed basis Kendrick is ahead of his peers.
Cole finally got his hand in the cookie jar his last 2 albums. While I think he's an amazing talent he's definitely not at the point where he can be considered incomparable or ahead of his peers. He's yet to drop that "ground-breaking" album or song. Great talent but still has room to improve.
I know this is the IC but somebody gotta be honest and dismiss the stanning....
The J. Cole trash memes on IG are killing me lol.
I agree 100% with what u said. I've always been called a hater because I don't like J. Cole.
He can spit but I don't really get the hype. -
Cole vs Krit is a solid comparison
FNL & Krit was here both dropped in 2010
Both are producer/rappers
Both released about same amount of material if u look at albums & mixtapes -
Kendrick bar for bar is above cole at the moment.
However tour wise cole has done better as far as getting people to his shows between the FHD 2015 tour, Festivals in 2016 and now selling out hella shows already for his For Your Eyez Only. The tour was so popular he added even more dates to it and those shows sold quick too.
On top of that his sales are on par if not better than Kendrick and remember cole dropped these albums out the blue. 2014 FHD sold better than TPAB first week and overall last i checked. 4 your eyez only sold more physical copies than Damn first week 363K physical vs 353 K Physical.

According to the IC only white ppl actually buy albums. So how much do sales really matter?
-
He steps forward and then goes back to me
I like Cole World, didn't like born sinner but forest hills was dope af and a personal classic for me but then turns around and released what I think is his worst ? with that last joint -
4 your eyez was forgettable -

U right i don't watch dragon ball super cuz that ? trash. They should of left it at DBZ no gt no super. Some things are just better off stopping especially since the creator of it akira said in a interview it was suppose to end with dragon ball but people loved it so much he made DBZ and wanted to end it at freeza. But people just want more and more so he makes more. Akira clearly running on fumes as far as orignal ideas go with super. -
No he's not above anything. Forest Hills was dope but the last joint was meh to me. He's one of the best right now by default. Unless he comes with some heat someone can knock him off & without a second thought.
-
He's better than a lot of these mumble kids...but he's no crown jewel
-
4 your eyez only probably my fave Cole album
Born sinner and FHD are both great albums
I feel like Cole was doing the best rapping of his career on the last album, it's just that he's only rapping 5 songs. I think it was his most mature project though
Love yourz is a modern day Keep your head up but the culture move too fast to appreciate it
Cole the KD of the rap game -
4 your eyez was forgettable
yeah I remember that ? getting hyped up in here for no reason
but but but he raps from the standpoint of his dead homie -

I agree with a lot of your sentiments but....

All I know is Drake and Cole were the new Jay and Nas around 2011 then Kendrick dropped GKMC in 2012 and Cole took a backseat to Kendrick.
-
Cole been quietly doing his thing. He might be on that Hov path where we dont appreciate him till later.......he thinkin bigger than just rap right now (documentarys, concert dvds)....we'll see what happens within the next few years.

? no

Not hype IMO. That title track is hip hop storytelling at its best and one of the best songs of Coles career along with Neighbors and Change -

Cole is more than capable of making songs as deep as Kendrick. Some of his albums just haven't been consistent front to back.
