I used to write and perform because I had something to say, and I wanted to mobilize people to action.

I became disillusioned with the who genre of politico lit when it dawned on me people are comfortable

just being entertained by words, they arent convicted to organize and move.

I still write in my head, havent put anything on paper or performed in about 5 years.

i don't write poetry, i write stories and articles. I write because i would go crazy if I didn't.
so you want to be a writer?

    by Charles Bukowski

if it doesn't come bursting out of you
    in spite of everything,
    don't do it.
unless it comes unasked out of your
heart and your mind and your mouth
    and your gut,
    don't do it.
if you have to sit for hours
    staring at your computer screen
    or hunched over your
    typewriter
    searching for words,
    don't do it.
if you're doing it for money or
    fame,
    don't do it.
if you're doing it because you want
    women in your bed,
    don't do it.
if you have to sit there and
    rewrite it again and again,
    don't do it.
if it's hard work just thinking about doing it,
    don't do it.
if you're trying to write like somebody
    else,
    forget about it.

if you have to wait for it to roar out of
    you,
    then wait patiently.
if it never does roar out of you,
    do something else.

if you first have to read it to your wife
or your girlfriend or your boyfriend
or your parents or to anybody at all,
    you're not ready.

don't be like so many writers,
don't be like so many thousands of
    people who call themselves writers,
don't be dull and boring and
pretentious, don't be consumed with self-
    love.
the libraries of the world have
    yawned themselves to
    sleep
    over your kind.
    don't add to that.
    don't do it.
    unless it comes out of
    your soul like a rocket,
    unless being still would
    drive you to madness or
    suicide or murder,
    don't do it.
unless the sun inside you is
    burning your gut,
    don't do it.

    when it is truly time,
and if you have been chosen,
    it will do it by
itself and it will keep on doing it
until you die or it dies in you.

    there is no other way.

    and there never was.

I write poetry to tell stories and for expression. A lot of my inspiration for my poems come from my own life experiences, or conversations I've had with others. BTW, I'm new here, but I hope that I can post some of my poetry on here soon, if that's okay.

    THE RED DEATH
    [THE RED DEATH]
    DEATH IS SERVED
    BY DOING NOTHING.

    THE PLAGUE IS MAN
    FOR HE GIVES
    DEATH A HAND
    HE WEARS HIS MASK
    TO HIDE HIS FACE

    THE RED DEATH

    IS NOT THE RED LINE.

    IT IS ALL OF HUMANITY
    WHO CROSSED THE LINE.

    DEATH SERVE’S
    EACH TIME THERE IS WAR.

    WE USE IT TO REDUCE
    OUR COST.

    BULLETS AND BOMBS
    WIPE OUT THE NEST.

    WHILE GAS
    WIPES OUT ALL THE REST.

    HOW CAN
    HUMANITY EVER LAST ?

    USE WISDOM
    INSTEAD OF GAS.

    BURY THE BULLETS.
    GIVE LIFE A CHANCE
    WE MAY YET LAST.

    POEATREEMAN
    IT IS MAN
    WHO WEARS THE MASK.
    WHAT LIES BEHIND IT
    YOU ASK ?
    UNCOVER
    ALL WILL BE EXPOSED.

    TRUTH WILL SHOW YOU
    THE FACE YOU HOLD.

    BLOOD WILL SHOW YOU
    THE DEATH TOLL.

    DEATH HAS
    A WELCOME HAND
    ONLY A FOOL
    WOULD TAKE HIS LINE.

    EVEN MORE SO
    TO WALK HIS LINE.

WHO IS BLACK IN AMERICA ?
    [THE SHADOW]

    EVERYONE

    WHO CAST A SHADOW.

    FOR IT IS OUR SOUL

    THAT TRULY

    SHOWS OUR SKIN.

    WE ALL

    HAVE A DARK SIDE.

    UNTIL WE
    LET THE LIGHT ON IN.

    TRUTH CAST NO SHADOWS

    FOR IT REFLECTS

    WHAT IS WITHIN.

    POEATREEMAN

    ONLY ? REALLY KNOWS
    THE COLOR OF YOUR SKIN

Ive never posted on here before, but ive been reading the IC for a bit. I started having rap style rhymes pop into my head about 6 years ago. Then i started thinking in rhymes inside my head more than i was even comforable with! Often they would provide comic relief for me, or even answers to problems. It was like they were coming to me, rather than from me. When i hit hard times they helped me see my situation in a better way. I havent had that headspace for a few years now and i really miss it.

Therapy is the number one reason. 2nd is It's stuff that comes out that can make people enjoy it and it can't be said a different way or else noone would want to hear it, so it's a language. Entertainment. 3rd Way to express a piece of me that exists but I don't get the chance to express in other modes of communication. It's also kind of like a diary of my thoughts and a way to enter a different world in my perspective

I got a problem where lines and words accumulate in my head. If I dont write them down or at least piece them together I get headaches. I'm usually bored when it happens so Im more than likely at home by the computer. Im high on myself and think every word I say is golden so I share my greatness with the world. 14.gif
