What is the secret to a good 808 Bass?

I've always wondered and never could do it right. I have Propellerheads Reason 4.0 and I was wondering how to make a real good slappin' ? 808 Bass. Does it need some kick? Does it need something more? What can i do to make some good 808 tracks.

    In the redrum put the 808 kick in the third channel and fool around with the start time and the pitch til you get it how you want.

    Thanx for the tip I'm using your advice as we speak and it sounds pretty good. I basically took a BD kick from an 808 drum kit online and I have channel 3 setup with the RPG-8 Arpeggiator so It repeats and I can give it a groove at the same time.
